4.0 out of 5 stars Required Reading
Many of you who are considering buying this text are probably doing so for either a regular college course or for one of the Regents College/Excelsior College exams. I decided to earn a second bachelors degree and am working through Excelsior College. This is the required text for one of their exams. I can say that the book is thorough and covers the material that you...

3.0 out of 5 stars An Undergraduate Text
I purchased this book for a graduate level adult development psychology class. After reading the first chapter I was immediately disappointed at the level this book was written. It is clearly an undergraduate text. If this book was used in an undergraduate context, this book would be an excellent resource for aging and adult development. Even at the graduate level it did...

Many of you who are considering buying this text are probably doing so for either a regular college course or for one of the Regents College/Excelsior College exams. I decided to earn a second bachelors degree and am working through Excelsior College. This is the required text for one of their exams. I can say that the book is thorough and covers the material that you need to know to pass the test, completely. Like many psyhcology and sociology texts, the subject matter can be dry, but the author seems to do a better than average job of dealing with this. I feel that the fact that I got an 'A' on the exam says very positive things about the text and its ability to prepare you for the testing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource, April 5, 2008
Required reading for a doctorate level class, but a textbook that I enjoyed reading. The writers weave "real world" examples throughout the text that provides the reader with a reference point for the application of theories. There are many visual examples throughout the text that assist the adult learner with understanding the concepts being delivered within each chapter.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good overview of aging and elderly issues, March 15, 2007
By
This textbook was required reading for a psychology class that I took on Adult Development and Aging. The text is very easy to read - the material covers all the major topics related to cognition, memory, development, illnesses, relationships, and end of life experiences. It provides a solid look at all of these topics without going too deep. I would recommend the book for anyone with aging parents - it is helpful to get a sense of what they are experiencing in their lives and to understand what role we play in supporting them.

Adult Development and Aging by John C. Cavanaugh and Fredda Blanchard-Fields specifically, since there are several books with this title, is chock full of well referenced facts, organized in a comprehensive and interesting way, and written to be, and is, a page turner. And this is a text book!

3.0 out of 5 stars An Undergraduate Text, December 3, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I purchased this book for a graduate level adult development psychology class. After reading the first chapter I was immediately disappointed at the level this book was written. It is clearly an undergraduate text. If this book was used in an undergraduate context, this book would be an excellent resource for aging and adult development. Even at the graduate level it did minimally expand my knowledge.

The book is written in an easy to read manner, with color pages and some graphs and pictures. The authors do a good job explaining their concepts in semi-technical terms. Overall, a good resource for undergrad students!

Item was as described, in good shape. Saved a lot of dollars by using this older edition. The information was still relevant and served me well for my psychology class.
