4.0 out of 5 stars A nice adjunct to other resources
I agree with some of the other reviews in some areas. However, I feel the benefit to this book is that it has so many questions and it explains why every answer is correct as well the why the other answers to each question are not correct. I didn't use the book expecting exact questions from the test so the "All of the aboves" didn't bother me. I will agree that there...

This review is from: Adult and Family Nurse Practitioner Certification Examination: Review Questions and Strategies (Book with Diskette) (Paperback)
I bought this review mostly for the computer practice disk that came with the study guide. Before my FNP exam I would have rated this book a 4-5 star but now that I have taken the exam I rate it more poorly. The study guide questions offer a lot of "all of the above" for an answer choices but the exam did not have a single one. Also the guide had a lot of questions regarding percentages and again there were none on my exam. However, the guide did give some tips on test taking that were beneficial and did bring some areas of attention that I needed to practice more on.

3.0 out of 5 stars Lots of questions, but....., August 25, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Adult and Family Nurse Practitioner Certification Examination: Review Questions and Strategies (Book with Diskette) (Paperback)
I question some of the answers that are given - is there a website for corrections? I research answers I feel are incorrect in Harrison's or in the 2000 Current, and then am not sure I can trust other answers to learn from since I have found several incorrect or NOT QUITE correct answers.

3.0 out of 5 stars Thorough but discouraging, October 27, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Adult and Family Nurse Practitioner Certification Examination: Review Questions and Strategies (Book with Diskette) (Paperback)
I obtained a copy of the book from a former classmate. The sections are divided to focus on specific areas of need. The volume of practice questions in text and disk is great, BUT, I found most questions far more difficult than what was on the actual exam (in my case, I took the AANP version today). The practice questions may be very discouraging to some as I found it to be, however, try to remember that the exam may not be as indepth. Do take a review course or order review cassette tapes. I recommend the Advance Practice Education Associates (APEA) review by Amelie Hollier who is a likable, encouraging, excellent speaker who tells you what you need to know with memorable stories. Note: I am not affiliated with the company nor am I being coerced to sharing this. The Fitzgerald review course does not cover many conditions but what it does cover may be more indepth than is necessary for the exam. Good Luck to ALL!

2.0 out of 5 stars Attention Candidates, May 7, 2006
By
Bob Tucker (Louisville, KY USA) - See all my reviews
This review book had too many detailed questioned and caused undue stress with its practice tests. The questions did not match what was on the actual exam I took. I repeatedly scored 60-65% on practice sections and tests and finally stopped using this book and changed books. The CD accompanyings this book only has 400+ questions on it and it does not supply rationale for the questions on the CD. It is not conducive to actual computer test taking. There are several errors in the questions and a few questions in the book have different answers than the CD. I passed my exam but not with the help of this book. I would recommend the Fitzgerald review CDs and Zerwekh and Claborn's Adult Nurse Practitioner Certification Review. I scored 75% on their practice tests consistently and those questions matched those on the actual test.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth it!, June 2, 2003
This review is from: Adult and Family Nurse Practitioner Certification Examination: Review Questions and Strategies (Book with Diskette) (Paperback)
Skip this one! Out of date questions with a lot of "All of the aboue" options that are NOT on the test. The practice disk is a waste as well. I found that questions were repeated frequently. Now I can't even open the disk- it keeps saying there is a file error.

Try Kidd & Robinson's or Fitzgerald's FNP certification reviews instead.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't Waste Your Money!, June 10, 2004
By
Rebecca J Hollenbaugh (South Whitley, IN United States) - See all my reviews
I purchased the new 2004 Winland-Brown review book and CD. Not only were there many errors in the numbering of the questions AND the numbering of the answers, but the questions are not written at an entry level practitioner's knowledge level. The questions seemed out in left field and were much more difficult than other books that I have reviewed. There were several discrepancies from the Fitzgerald review CDs (2004. When I looked up the information, Fitzerald seems to be correct, not Winland-Brown. There was conflicting information in regards to fetal movement counts and prostatitis, and in other areas that I can't recall at this time. Don't waste your money. I recommend Fitzgerald's review course/CDs and book!

1.0 out of 5 stars Just passed my ANCC for FNP, April 24, 2008
By
I just passed my ANCC today and here are some books I wish I had in school. The following helped me to pass the ANCC because they are most like the test. First, Margaret Fitzgerald's book Nurse Practitioner Certification Examination and Practice Preparation is a great must have book for school and test prep. If you can, take her live seminar or get the CDs. Next Leik's book Family Nurse Practitioner Certification Intensive Review:Fast Facts and Practice Questions, great book, good to synthesize all of the Fitzgerald info. The Hollier/Wirfs book: Certification Prep Exams Practice Test s and Questions with Rationales 4th ed is a great prep for questions, don't bother buying the review book by Hollier, it is too basic. Next, make SURE you buy the Family Nurse Practitioner Certification Review by Zerwekh and Claborn. This is the only review book I could find that has a CD rom . The CD is almost like the actual test and some of the questions are very similar. Don't buy the Winland/Brown book, not like the test. If you start off by buying these four books you will be in good shape. Good luck on the exam!

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your time or money, December 3, 2006
By
G. Mickalonis "FNP in PA" (Limerick, PA United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This book contains a lot of review questions. Unfortunately, a great number of them are far more detailed than necessary for entry level practitioners, and frequently provide answers that are just plain wrong. Several of my classmates and I, who went through our FNP program with excellent averages, were terrified we would flunk the certification exam after doing dismally on the practice tests in this book. After putting this book aside and studying from the Fitzgerald review course material and her review book, we each passed the AANP exam with flying colors. I would not recommed this book to anyone.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible Book, September 27, 2006
By
This book is truly terrible and an insult the nursing profession. I plead with the authors to remove the book off the shelves or IMPROVE IT NOW! The answers are wrong and outdated , one answer told me to put a woman on HRT for hypertenstion and hyperlidpidemia, this information is atleast 5 years old. And in the tests in the back of the book, they don't give rationale for the answers... they just refer you back to the chapter... WHO HAS TIME TO REREAD THE CHAPTER. The questions are also very poor and very specific. IT will make you doubt yourself, even though you know what your talking about.

2.0 out of 5 stars Find a different review book, September 2, 2006
I purchased this book at my Fitzgerald review course. After getting it home and starting to use it, I quickly became frustrated. I thought that the questions were poorly worded and harder than the actual test questions. Several of the questions were coded wrong and there were too many questions that were "all of the above" or "none of the above." These are complaints that I have seen in other reviews of this book.

The review book that I did find to be very helpful was "Adult Nurse Practitioner Certification Review" by JoAnn Zerwekh and Jo Carol Claborn. Their questions are closer to what the actual boards are like and there are no all or none questions (just like the real exam).
