This bench is, of course, made in China, by people deeply uninterested in quality of their product. The packaging is super economy, nuts and bolts were spread across the box, some missing (late evening run to Home Depot), and there was no assembly instruction. I figured it out, eventually, after realizing that the engineers decided to save $0.12 on 4 bolts, and the back panel of the bench simply slides into mortises, being held by pressure of a top plank. Few screws on preassembled pieces broke off with the surrounding wood, and had to be replaced with bigger screws and some epoxy. The fit is below average, the finish is OK. After all tinkering, the bench seems solid, almost straight, and rocks well.
I would pay more for higher quality and not made in China, but that is something hard to find nowadays. All in all, OK deal for 50% off. |
