Just Fine, a Good Value, December 17, 2006
Overall, this is a nice outfit. It comes complete with just about everything you need. You've got to supply the boots/shoes, gloves, and something to wear under the skirt (or not).
The hat: Although you can't quite tell from the product photos, the hat matches the sequined exterior fabric of the dress. The tassel is a bit detached from the hat, on a somewhat thick white string about 2" from the crown of the hat, not tight against the top. The hat is standard fit, about size 7 1/2, no elastic. The fur band is lined rather nicely with satin, with the rest of the hat lightly lined inside the red sequin material.
The cape is a nice little feature. It ties with an ample white cord, a thicker cord than that connecting the tassel to the top of the hat. The cape is also of the same red sequin material. The cape is lined along the fur trim nicely with satin, and again lined lightly inside the exterior sequin material.
The dress is well constructed, solid. There is a 20" centered zipper in the back. The dress has the same light lining inside as the hat and cape. The sleeves are demi, and the fur cuffs are lined with satin, as is the fur trim at the bottom of the skirt. A satin lining inside the entire skirt would be a perfect addition to this piece. There are two integrated hanging straps inside the dress. The dress is marked dry clean only.
The 3" wide black belt is vinyl, and well seamed all around, sewn, not cut with a hot knife. The belt is overall 53" long, with the six eyes between 38" and 46". The buckle is solid metal and rather substantial. The belt eyes have metal grommets, and are well-seated and apparently unlikely to come out/off.
The two black boot covers are the same vinyl as the belt, and sewed the same way. The boot cover rises approximately 15" from the instep. The fur trim at the top is turn-down, and is not lined. There is no elastic at the top. There is a single 3/8" wide black elastic stirrup on the bottom of the boot cover. These covers are quite large, and for those with small shoe sizes, some pulling and pinning likely will be in order for the back of the cover and at the top, as well as to lessen the additional play in the stirrup.
All in all, this is not your typical low-budget, one-time-use costume. It is well-made, solid, and with proper care should last a number of seasons and outings. As noted, just a few small changes, paricularly a satin lining of the dress, would make this an outstanding product.
