I bought this book based on the comments I read, but I was so disapointed in this book. It is an average book to learn about DDIC definitions, and a poor book about advanced programming. Most sections are about defining DDIC elements, but there are two chapters about advanced techniques and performance tips. Altough this sounds good, there is no depth in those subjects. Advanced techniques in the book are about locks and updates. The peformance tips take a whole 12 pages and are very superficial. How about a chapter on debugging and tracing, analyses of buffers, etc... That is advanced programming. I got more information about advanced programming through the SAP ABAPDOCU help than I got in this book. I wished this book would have been available at the store so that I could have browsed it, because I would have definitively not bought it. Print the SAP help documentation for DDIC and for ABAPDOCU, and you will get more information than you would find in this book. If you are a serious ABAP programmer with a few years experience, stay away from this book.

I was a bit skeptical about a book promising to explain advanced ABAP. In fact, the concepts are not advanced but sort of intermediate, so very experienced programmers might not find it useful. However, if you are at that level, the book is very helpful. I completed a programming project, writing a transaction, complete with GUIs, etc. (and all that for the first time)in less time than expected and relying primarily on the book as a reference. Clearly written. The authors should help out SAP with some of their convoluted online help! Well worth the $s (or DMs as the case may be).

I am an SAP consultant with over 4 years of ABAP consulting experience. I ordered this book long before it went into print. So, I could not wait for it to read when it finally arrived! The authors have covered advanced ABAP features in a simple way with lot of illustrations and examples. This book has saved me a lot of time as how to exploit the ABAP workbench to its maximum potential.

As an ABAP developer, I know there are few advanced books on ABAP and, while this is one of the better ones, it is so full of errors that it has confused me as many times as it has helped me. It is obvious that some of the text and several of the code examples were not checked since many either do not run, give incorrect results or are just plain wrong. I find this inexcusable in an advanced book whose purpose is to teach since I purchased the book to learn good ABAP coding and I trust the authors to show me how. In addition, the publisher had a web site which used to contain a page reporting the errors in the book and the corrections. For many months this site showed exactly one correction even though I sent them a list of the many errors I found in the first chapter. After a few emails I received a reply saying they are out of touch with (all three) of the authors. My corrections were never included and, after checking today, find the corrections page has been removed and replaced with several links to the code in the book... none of which work. This book has some good information but a great many flaws and the publisher does not stand behind their work. It's only worth it if you can find it for a really good price.

if you have years of ABAP experience especially on dialog programming. Save you bucks. This book tries to set up the equation: dialogue programming = advanced abap. simply wrong. I regret my bucks. subcribe a sap magzine will be much better than this book. The publish should not puts this book under the title 'advanced' but 'sap dialogue programming' instead. Advanced abap is only possible from hardcord abapers. Obviously, the author is NOT among them.

The book is very readable and gives step by step information on the hows AND the whys. This book is wonderful!

Awesome book. The only one out there that covers screen painter, menu painter, selection screen progamming, etc, etc, etc. I love this book.

Too simplistic. Programming examples are riddled with errors.

This is really a very good Book written on ABAP. It gives comprehensive information on important aspects of ABAP programing lang. and also many of the advanced feature's, which were not caterd in other book's I have read so far. Also the step-by-step approach is wonderful and the examples given are very nicely developed.

The book provides a stepping stone for new ABAPers on most of the area that he/she may encounter. Certainly it has not cover all you need, but once you have the crue to do something, the rest are details (for you to find out ^-^).
