5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely the best DB2 book!, May 17, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Advanced DBA Certification Guide and Reference for DB2® Universal Database v8 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows (Paperback)
I just found this book, and after reading it wish I had found this years ago. This is the most comprehensive book on DB2 that I have ever seen. This book has already saved me a lot of time. The performance chapter is great and helped me improve the performance of my DB2 server by over 30% in less than a week.

This review is from: Advanced DBA Certification Guide and Reference for DB2® Universal Database v8 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows (Paperback)
This is the book I was waiting for long on DB2UDB. This not only covers topics for certifications but also good (very good) reference material for all UDB DBAs on LUW platform.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book out of the Toronto Lab, March 7, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Advanced DBA Certification Guide and Reference for DB2® Universal Database v8 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows (Paperback)
This book is the best book published on DB2 out of the Toronto Lab. Although it doesn't have the flair you can get with a book written by a consultant, The authors provide much more useful information that what you usually find in a book out of the developemnt lab. Usually, they just tell the party line. The authors have broken that mold and have done a really excellent job on new SQL snapshot functions. I'm building my snapshot repository as I write this. I use this book and Gunning's for all my DB2 needs. Boy and I a happy camper with these two books on my deskstop. I have to keep them from disappearing. I rated this 4 stars as it still had the company line to some extent. Great book though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely the best DB2 book, by the DB2 experts, January 25, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Advanced DBA Certification Guide and Reference for DB2® Universal Database v8 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows (Paperback)
I have heard Dwaine speak at conferences in the past, and this is just another example of the great insight and knowledge that Dwaine has in DB2. This book presents this information in an easy to read and logical fashion. This is without a doubt the best DB2 book available, and one every DB2 DBA should own. It will save you a lot of time and frustration.

5.0 out of 5 stars best advanced DB2 UDB DBA book out there, January 11, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Advanced DBA Certification Guide and Reference for DB2® Universal Database v8 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows (Paperback)
As an experienced DBA on Oracle and DB2 UDB, this book hands down is the best reference and support guide on the DB2 UDB environment. It cuts to the point without wasting pages explaining what DB2 UDB is. Excellent for when you need to implement complex backup and recovery or if your database crashes at 2am you will be thankful to have this critical reference. The other books for the most part on DB2 UDB are garbage and a waste of money. This book is dogeared and highlighted like crazy from the frantic reads. Worth its weight in gold to keep your job as a senior DBA.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best DB2 Advanced Reference, December 28, 2003
This review is from: Advanced DBA Certification Guide and Reference for DB2® Universal Database v8 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows (Paperback)
This book goes further than all other DB2 books I've read. It is not a simple 'how to' guide, it also gives lots of good practices and info not always known by the average DBA.
If you are trying to push your DB2 expertise to the next level, this is the book you should try first.

I've come to rely on this book for all my day to day DBA activities. It has the explanations, illustrations, and sample programs like the User Exit program needed to make it an invaluable reference. I recommend this book for all DBA's wanting a better understanding of how DB2 works.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent read!, November 2, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Advanced DBA Certification Guide and Reference for DB2® Universal Database v8 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows (Paperback)
I bought this book to study for the Advanced Certification exam. While reading it I discovered that the book is not just a study guide, but a great reference for my daily activities. I thought I already 'knew it all', but these authors proved me wrong. I highly recommend it to ALL DB2 DBAs. In the future, I will purchase ANY book written by Dwaine Snow and Thomas Phan.

This book helps you understand concepts from the DB2 ADMIN Performance Guide. Dwaine provides many useful formulas for determining the health of the database. Good coverage on MDC, Federated databases, and new multithreading for SPs/UDFs.
