Excellent Text,
This review is from: Advanced Cisco Router Configuration (Textbook Binding)
I used many resources to pass the ACRC Exam. This text stands out as the best by far. I found myself going back to it again and again. If you have a network you can work on and this book by your side, I don't see any reason why you shouldn't pass the test on the first try (but you MUST know this book inside and out).

Could have been a great book,

This book does cover all of the objectives presented. The format and gramatical errors destroy most of benefits. I used this book and failed the ACRC exam 640-403. The ACRC Exam Certification Guide, author: Clare Gough-CCIE #2893 is a much better book. The questions are more difficult, the CD that accompanies the book is harder than the actual test. I couldn't answer some of them, even read Todd Lammle's book. I placed the three next to each other and thumbed through the chapters. The main difference is the ACRC Exam Guide has several CCIE technical editors who are precise. This is the best $60.00 bucks I've spent since the ICRC guide by Laura Chappel. I even noticed that some of the questions presented in this book were similar to the CCIE Written Examination.

Best Route for success,
This review is from: Advanced Cisco Router Configuration (Textbook Binding)
This Book Follows the official course chapter for chapter, but adds more detail than the course material. There is no better way to learn the curricullum (except in conjuction with hands-on). The typos are relatively minor and there are no grossly misleading errors. The only element it lacks is more comprehensive end of chapter quizzes to prepare for the exam. A good supplement is the ACRC Exam Certification Guide by Cisco Press. For success on the exam and in your career, this book is a great asset.

Could be better,

I'm not sure if I have an older revision, or if the people giving it 5 stars are... well... asleep at the keyboard. While, yes, it does cover 90% of the ACRC exam, there are MANY errors and typos (checked against CCO). After finding the errors, I passed the exam with an 850... before finding the errors, by relying on this book, I scored 727. My suggestion... if ANYTHING looks wrong, check it with CCO... or check EVERYTHING with CCO to be on the safe side.

Good concepts, poor implementation,
By
This review is from: Advanced Cisco Router Configuration (Textbook Binding)
The concepts of this book are great - it explains the steps the router takes to accomplish a task. Unfortunately, the implementation isn't what I expected. Perfect example is setting up NAT. This book explains everything about how nat works, what it does and how it does it, but it doesn't give the OS commands to implement it! For the price, I would think that could be included.

I would give a 5 stars...,

After passed ACRC exam on the first shot, I would give this book a 5 stars if there were not so many errors. It covers right topics but there are just too many errors everywhere. I agree that it seems no editor at all and they just cut-and-paste from CCO (There are places they even pasted to the wrong location!) It's really painful to read this book especially at first time. First, you need to GUESS what it's trying to say. Then you have to VERIFY whether it says is correct or not. This is what they say at the preface of the book: "...Each book is crafted with care and precision..." But it doesn't seem true to me!

Whether or not you pursue the CCNP certification router configuration is something that is a key to ensuring that your network is safe from the outside and the safety of the data is a prime concern of any network administrator.
This 635 page guide is a great addition to my technical library with the information presented I was able to enhance my router knowledge for both network and training purposes. The book is broken into five parts with Part 1 covering the overview the scalable Internetwork.
Part 2 delves into the topics of managing traffic, network congestion, setting up IP access lists, IPX/SPX and SAP access lists and setting up queuing to take care of traffic problems. Part 3 covers VLSM, Classless and Classful subletting, OSPF in both single and multiple areas, EIGRP and BGP protocols.
Part 4 is the Dial-Up section with topics like WAN encapsulations, ISDN, DDR, PPP and HDLC. Finally part 5 the Non-Routing section where you learn about bridging techniques like source-routing, transparent and translational. The book is filled with actual examples of the code to make the understanding easier. Overall an excellent buy for the money.

very much lacking,
By
This review is from: Advanced Cisco Router Configuration (Textbook Binding)
This book could have been much, much more than it ended up. I bought it without having read any kind of review and I definitely regret it. After having read a far superior book on ACRC (Semester Five Companion Guide), I have to say that this book lacks too much in detail for the price. There are numerous errors (which you can view errata on the Cisco Press web site, it's massive) in this book as well that can confuse the reader tremendously. I only buy Cisco Press books, but had this been my first, I may have reconsidered. Mark McGregor did a much better job writing the Academy curriculum.

A good revision book, an essential reference book.....,
This review is from: Advanced Cisco Router Configuration (Textbook Binding)
I believe this is the best Cisco book on the market. It is readable, easy to understand and well written. The chapters follow on from one another while at the same time it is easy to go in and read and understand a specific chapter.I have read about OSPF, for example, in a number of books. This book provides the best explanation and examples. ACRC is the first exam I plan to sit and this book has given me a great deal of confidence. The only down point is that the tests at the end of each chapter are good, but in short supply. I would consider purchasing another test book as well as this, like the Syngress Practice Exams one which covers all CCNP exams.

This book is really all you need,
By A Customer
This review is from: Advanced Cisco Router Configuration (Textbook Binding)
I purchased this book along with the Lammle book thinking they would be good together. However I found that this book is really all I needed to pass the exam. If you can gather all of the information from this book and apply it on the exam you will most likely pass. The only reason I didn't give this book 5 stars is because it didn't cover compression thoroughly.
