Waited 7 days just to receive a pump that only states inside the box, that it can not be used for water based products and is only for oil based product. Extremely misleading. Amazon fails to list this in the product description. Evidently I am by far not alone based on other peoples comments and ratings. The product appears to be very well designed for folks actually looking for an oil pump. The product label on the box is also misleading as it states it can be filled with a standard garden hose... I don't know anyone who would use a garden hose with oil based anything. Amazon also RECOMMENDED this with the Emergency Essential 55 gal barrel that is STRICTLY advertised for DRINKING water. The barrel is made of a non Phthalate plastic, different from a tank that could hold chemicals or oil based products.

MISLEADING AND MISREPRESENTED.

The Lever Action Barrel Pump seemed very well constructed and heavy duty - just what I wanted. It arrived quick and was very fairly priced. However, the instructions inside the packaging state: "DO NOT USE WITH: Water based fluids (these attack unplated steel), etc". I had purchased this item to pump water from rain barrels. The product is worth 5 stars for sure - I only gave it 4 stars because the advertising posted on Amazon does not indicate what it can or cannot be used for. I am returning this item post haste.

seems like an excellent product - I put it in a 55gal barrel to pump water - worked GREAT! Then, a couple days later went to pump out some water and got dark brown water out of my 'clean' water barrel. I looked at the piece of paperwork that came with the unit and noted it did mention for oil products only - NOT for use with water. VERY dissapointed. Really needs to be specified better in ad.
If you're looking for a great oil pump - this maybe for you but thats all it can be used for. No water, NO gas/diesel, kerosene etc.
4-5 stars for product 0 for what most of us are looking for.

I use this to pump hydraulic fluid out of 55-gallon drums. It has proven itself to do the job just fine. It doesn't leak, doesn't bleed down and doesn't drool excessively. Works as well or better than much more expensive pumps.

Found out today that the water pump I ordered 60 days ago to have ready for spring water barrels in NOT FOR WATER- but it doesn't say that- it says not for gasoline and talks about fitting on a garden hose!!!!!
I can return for a partial refund and pay shipping to return due to the window of time....NOT HAPPY! If you want this for rain barrels....look elsewhere and don't get burned!

The pump looks like a solidly built piece of equipment, and I was initially happy when I received it -- but once I read the directions I realized that it was not to be used for pumping water, or even for pumping gasoline; it was only good for pumping oil. Since I bought the pump mainly for pumping gasoline, it doesn't do me much good. (Maybe if the advertisement spelled out the limitations, this kind of mistake would not happen..)

I wish I had read the reviews before I bought this. I always do now! As mentioned above, this is not recommended for water, and that's why I bought it, so I returned it. Wish they made something like this for water!

This item is exactly as detailed and works excellent, just a small disappointment, around the suction lever of the arm it leaks when pumping, and the handle isn't very sturdy, otherwise quick and easy to use. A good feature is that you have the ability to attach a hose fitting to the nossle.

It says that this pump is primarily used for fuel, but I am using mine in the greenhouse to pump water for my plants. Works just fine - a lot better and easier than the plastic pumps made for water barrels.
