Not worth the money, July 15, 2007
This review is from: Advanced Engineering Mathematics, Student Solutions Manual and Study Guide (Paperback)
This book was a major disappointment. Having taken 15 yrs off between getting my BS and starting grad school, I was looking for detailed examples of how to solve problems to refresh my memory. The solutions in this book skipped several steps and proved to be only marginally helpful, if even that. If you don't clearly understand the real text book, you won't get much help from this "solutions" manual. As in the text, there are not enough examples in this manual either. There is not even an example representing each subset of problems in the back of each chapter. Don't waste your money.

Comprehensive study reference, March 21, 2007
This review is from: Advanced Engineering Mathematics, Student Solutions Manual and Study Guide (Paperback)
This is a comprehensive compendium on engineering mathematics which I found fascinating and enjoyable to read. This is not a book for the novice but for those with a strong background in high school Mathematics. I used an earlier edition of this book as a graduate student and it is still among the texts I use as a reference book. Among the extensive topics covered include linear algebra, ordinary and partial differential equations, Fourier series, differential forms, graph theory, oscillation matrices, quantum symmetries, complex variables, probability and statistics, vector calculus, numerical and computer methods. The book is a useful, helpful and handy reference for the engineering mathematics and applied mathematics student. The book is well written and the material is well organised with similar related concepts grouped together allowing a fluidity that facilitates its use. The author also presents various problems which when worked out will ensure a complete grasp of the subject.

seriously, not worth the money, September 24, 2010
This review is from: Advanced Engineering Mathematics, Student Solutions Manual and Study Guide (Paperback)
it's been said before, but it bears repeating: the text itself is understandably a bit short in explaining details that you should already know; after all, all these topics would never fit into a single book otherwise. i say this, even though it still frustrates the hell out of me when i get stumped. the solutions manual is a different story. when i got it in the mail, i immediately knew it would be useless. i didn't even need to open it to know that much. very few problems are covered, and without detail. it's not worth carrying around and it's not worth the price. if you're considering a SSM for this book, if you think you'll need help figuring out this material, save your money and get a cramster subscription instead. they have this book, this edition.
