Too Wordy,

This review is from: Advanced Engineering Thermodynamics (Hardcover)
In our graduate level course, we were forced to use this terrible book. The committee, for some reason, approved this book even if the professors dislike it. The book problems are very wordy and the book does not contain all the information to complete the problem. After much outcry of my classmates, our professor decided to drop the book. We now use our professor's notes and problems. Please choose another graduate level textbook.

A must-read in the field,
By A. Isabel Costa (Denmark) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Advanced Engineering Thermodynamics (Hardcover)
This book is truly engaging and many chapters are simply memorable.Unlike many similarly hefty texts, this new edition of Advanced Engineering Thermodynamics gives a lucid, informative and insightful approach to the laws of thermodynamics and their real-world applications. Moreover, it also reports on the latest advances made based on the author's constructal theory. The text flows smoothly, with excellent illustrations and has been meticulously proofread, a credit to both Dr. Bejan and his editors. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this 3rd edition of Advanced Engineering Thermodynamics; therefore, I can most sincerely recommend it. In summary: a must-read in the field for university students and scientific researchers alike.

Not for grad students...,
By L.Schuess "MEStudent" (Milwaukee, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Advanced Engineering Thermodynamics (Hardcover)
I could see this being a good book to read in your spare time(to gain theoretical insight) or if you are devoted STRICTLY to thermal sciences. However, if you want to learn about applicable thermodynamics and be able to understand and apply concepts, this is not a good guide. The text is correct, but highly misleading... If you are leading someone down a path that they have to remember, you don't lead them in circles each time you take a turn. He goes on, turns a corner, turns another corner, talks about something else. He constantly refers back to Figures and concepts several pages/Chapters behind. That makes it difficult to stay on course. I see this book has some good reviews, so it obviously offers some good resources and I can see that. But it is a book that needs reading multiple times and experience with the actual concepts to digest what is going on. Grad level text book by KENNETH WARK is much better. It is extremely difficult to get any sort of headway using Bejan's book. In this light, I would recommend passing on buying this book if you have a choice.

Bejan's AET - 3rd Ed.,
This review is from: Advanced Engineering Thermodynamics (Hardcover)
Bejan's AET book offers a unique, clear and straightforward exposure to classical thermodynamics. The book neatly dissects the most fundamental concepts of thermodynamics, while covering total flow exergy, restricted dead state and unconstrained equilibrium state, heat transfer, fluid flow and chemical irreversibilities, thermodynamic optimization, irreversibility distribution ratio, lost exergy, EGM, etc, from a fundamental and applied stand point (e.g., power generation, solar power, low temperature refrigeration). Chapter 13 also brings the latest developments in Constructal Theory. I strongly recommend this book to grad and undergrad students interested in advanced, yet accessible, thermodynamics.

A magnificent and mature book on Engineering Thermodynamics,
This review is from: Advanced Engineering Thermodynamics (Hardcover)
First and Second Laws are presented in detail, including their historical perspective, and combined emphasizing entropy generation and destruction of available work (exergy). Single phase systems, multiphase systems and chemically reactive systems are analyzed in depth, regarding the First and Second Laws. Simple and elaborated power generation systems, solar power systems and refrigeration systems are analyzed, special attention being devoted to their optimal performances. Entropy generation minimization is presented as a consistent and mature methodology for system's analysis, through which real system's imperfections can be identified and optimal performances, in an overall sense, can be pursued. The Constructal Law of Configuration Generation, a new law of Physics, explains how the structure and configuration of animate and inanimate systems evolve in order to give them the lower resistance to flow. Structure and configuration are the result of the optimal internal resistance (imperfection) distribution. This prediction/explanation of structure and configuration is beyond the scope of the First Law (conservation) and of the Second Law (sense of spontaneous evolutions). This is a rigorous and easy to read book, the main role pertaining to the Physics insight of Thermodynamics. The author has a special gift to transmit his ideas, many of them innovative, and many of them presented following new and appealing ways. Very useful illustrations and drawings are presented throughout the book, as well as relevant classic and contemporary references for each chapter. Engineering Thermodynamics is presented as a live and attractive topic instead of a stagnant and annoying one, to the reader are given solid skills and he/she is invited to go beyond the contents of the book. Imagination is the limit.

The book has too many printing omissions. For example, 'thermodynamics' reads 'the mod nam s' at many places and so on.

About "Advanced Engineering Thermodynamics" by A. Bejan,
By
This review is from: Advanced Engineering Thermodynamics (Hardcover)
« Advanced Engineering Thermodynamics » by A. Bejan is an astonishing construction of classical thermodynamics and of high-level recent developments such as entropy generation minimisation and the constructal theory. This book can be used either by engineering students or by confirmed researchers belonging to a wide range of fields such as thermodynamics of course but also, more generally, physics. The remarkable historical dimension of the book concerning the emergence and the evolution of thermodynamics as a science has to be noticed. By covering the phenomenon of geometry generation in all physics, Bejan's "constructal" contribution to thermodynamics and to science is becoming irreversible!

A must have book for Engineering Thermodynamics,
This review is from: Advanced Engineering Thermodynamics (Hardcover)
The third edition of this book provides complete detail of the first and second laws of thermodynamics, including detail perspectives of their historical foundation. It also provides a complete course in advanced engineering thermodynamics in the area of entropy generation minimization, destruction of available work etc., as well as introducing the emerging area of constructal law of configuration generation, a new law of physics. In fact, this book bridges the gap between the old thermodynamics and the new way of thinking (Constructal law) that makes thermodynamics very interesting. Having used this book as a graduate student, I strongly recommend this book. It is a must have book for all engineers in the area of thermal sciences.

New way of thinking Thermodynamics!,
This review is from: Advanced Engineering Thermodynamics, 2nd Edition (Hardcover)
"This is a very new way of thinking thermodynamics! It bridges the "old Thermodynamics" based on the three well-known laws with brand new developments that encompass generation of structure in flow systems for which the "Constructal Law" provides a sound basis. It invites the reader to a new vision, and to challenging new ways of thinking old problems! The real world is out of equilibrium, develops structure and morphs in time. At every chapter the reader is defied to see real problems with an open-mind though by the eyes of the engineer. I strongly recommended it to my students!"
