This is a highly focused advanced grammar text designed to provide ESL students with a smooth transition from the simple grammar constructions acquired in basic ESL classes to the complex grammar constructions applied in university level academic writing and reading. The lessons are organized to accommodate both inductive and deductive learning styles by providing discovery and analysis exercises followed by charts, explanations, and discussions of grammar rules and usage. Though the book does not provide any listening or speaking exercises it could be used to accentuate a communicative approach. Due to Schmidt's incorporation of passages from forty different academic fields, the text would be invaluable in an ESL course for International Teaching Assistants.

This book has been written in a completely different and useful methode,therefore you can find an extremely useful charts and explanations and exercises, but the problem is that it does not have the answer key so you can not use it as an independent material. I suggest that an answer key to be included in the next edition.

It has been great source for advanced learners, however it doesn't give adequate details about a particular subject. one thing which come to mind is that it does this because it is for advanced learners, therefore, a person must have some knowledge about the regarding subject. In general, it is worthwhile to have.
