I have found Vivian Heyward's textbook to be an excellent reference tool for personal training, fitness program planning and progression. I had the 5th edition and then purchased the 6th for a Designs for Fitness class. Ms. Heyward's textbook is always used for this class at the University of New Mexico as she was a professor there before retiring. The newest edition is as user-friendly and well-organized as the last. She has made some modifications to some of the norm tables and revised a few of the formulas. She is also including a specific section on balance training as balance is now part of the ACSM recommendations for fitness.
I highly recommend this text for exercise training students and professionals.

Unique in its scope and depth is a guide to assist exercise students and practitioners alike in bridging the gap between the latest exercise research and its applications. It's been updated throughout, includes details from the 2010 edition of ACSM's Guidelines for Exercise testing and Prescription, and uses the latest new techniques, from GPS to interactive video games, to change exercise behavior and promote fitness. College-level fitness libraries and any serious sports collection should have this in-depth reference.

This is an advanced book on exercise and if you have an understanding of: 'Intermediate Algebra' 'A&P I&II' and 'exercise physiology' you should be fine. If you do not then brush up.
' A&P' is critical to understand this because all those labs learning about: 'the q wave tidal volume the p wave QRS cycle measuring bp and kortoff ..' will come back to haunt you.
This book will help immensely if you are going into a field of physical therapy or exercise science. It will teach one how many calories different activity's will burn . It will show readers how to evaluate someones risk for CVD CHD and metabolic syndromes etc. I recommend an overview of intermediate Algebra as there are equations in here. Luckily though the book offers formulas for the equations. The student will learn how to test and prescribe exercise tests and programs.
If you get this textbook used make sure it has all the forms before you buy it and make sure that you can make a copy of important stuff ( like the par-q) in the appendix

The book arrived in perfect condition. It also took less time to arrive in Australia than expected.
As for the content of the book, it is the 6th Edition. That means that people keep buying it, and so the Authors take the time to keep editing and updating the content. Truly a great book

Advanced Fitness Assessment and Exercise Prescriptions is really informative. Some of the information on diabetes is a bit out of date, but that is a constant battle with health and fitness texts. Overall it's worth it.

The book was ordered for a class. Teacher decided to try the new edition. At first the layout seems odd, but eventually makes sense as it progresses. Great case studies and informative extra information.
