1.0 out of 5 stars A CURSE FOR ANY SERIOUS DREAMER!!
Let's start with the book itself:

It is very well written, not too technical, not too amateurish, everything is explained in a clear fashion, easy to understand, so there is really nothing wrong with the way the material is presented. Still, there is a hidden danger so I'll just start with my personal experience.

5.0 out of 5 stars good book on supplements that enhance dreaming, March 11, 2007
This review is from: Advanced Lucid Dreaming: The Power of Supplements (Paperback)
This book assumes you are already knowledgeable about how to lucid dream (LD). You practice your LD techniques but morning comes and again you wake up realizing you sleep through the night without becoming lucid. What went wrong?

Answer: possibly your brain chemistry. Neurotransmitters control your sleep cycles, memory, and communication between brain cells. If you boost the availability of certain neurotransmitters in the brain you can have longer, more vivid dreams with better retention.

While there is no magic pill that will make you lucid, there are natural supplements that boost the amount and availability of these key neurotransmitters. Mr. Yuschak has given us his personal roadmap on how to use these supplements to enhance your dreaming experience.

I am a lucid dreamer. I have used several of the supplements mentioned in this book and yes they did work to make my dreaming more vivid and more apt to trigger a lucid dream. I found this book to be well written and I recommend it for those who would like more information on using supplements to enhance dreaming.

5.0 out of 5 stars For the desperate seeker, June 29, 2007

This review is from: Advanced Lucid Dreaming: The Power of Supplements (Paperback)
I am 23 years of age, I have been attempting lucid dreaming since the age of 17 with very limited success. In those years I probably had 4 successful lucid dreams and that really is a low percentage.

I bought Thomas' book, and this really is something unique.

Yes it does work, but it is not a miracle 'cure' you still need to do your part as well.

Words of advice: make sure Galantamine is available in your country without a prescription, I am from South Africa and I could not get my hands on it. I ordered it from overseas and it did reach my doorstep though... *cough* ... Places like Advanced Dream Nutrition will be a good place to order--if you have this problem

Also, I and others make mention of some of the supplements in our posts, it is not advised to use these supplements without reading the book first, as your chances of success will be limited as well as potential danger to your health if not used correctly.

Thank you Thomas for sharing your research with us, it was selfless.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent and totally new approach!, February 13, 2007
This review is from: Advanced Lucid Dreaming: The Power of Supplements (Paperback)
Anybody struggling to learn lucid dreaming should read this book. I have tried every imaginable approach to learn how to have lucid dreams with very limited success. Then along comes this book with a method based purely on neuroscience and I start having extremely long and vivid lucid dreams right out of the gate. A very sincere thank you.

I highly recommend this book because it explains a great deal about the best way to achieve LD's on a regular basis, which can be a difficult obstacle to overcome when it comes to wanting consistency in your results from all your dreaming attempts.
I've followed Thomas's suggestions with 3 of the supplements and can corroborate his theories on correct use of the suggested supplements, with powerful, consistent results that are currently changing my life. Galantamine is just the best!
Thanks Thomas. ;-)

5.0 out of 5 stars groundbreaking, November 9, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Advanced Lucid Dreaming: The Power of Supplements (Paperback)
The author is making a rare look at using nutraceuticals and legal drugs to facilitate lucid dreaming. Lucid dreaming is being conscious of the fact that you are dreaming and offers a host of magickal posibilities. The autor's concepts are possibly unique and may prove fruitful where other induction techniques fail. He discusses the brain chemistry mechanisms and possible safety issues and precautions. A unique book and worth buying if you are interested in lucid dreaming or shamanism.

1.0 out of 5 stars A CURSE FOR ANY SERIOUS DREAMER!!, May 20, 2009

This review is from: Advanced Lucid Dreaming: The Power of Supplements (Paperback)
Let's start with the book itself:

It is very well written, not too technical, not too amateurish, everything is explained in a clear fashion, easy to understand, so there is really nothing wrong with the way the material is presented. Still, there is a hidden danger so I'll just start with my personal experience.

After getting this book and reading it, I was quick in getting the main supplements as suggested and started experimenting with. I have to say the intensity of the dreams were amazing, it was easy to wake up and stay lucid for quite a while inside them, there were even a couple of OBEs as well.

So, you ask, what is this danger you speak about?
Well, any true Toltec path threader, or any serious lucid dreamer will tell you of the dangers of attaching your success rate to an external factor, and let me tell you, I was *truly* scared/disheartened when I realized that I was unable to LD anymore without taking these over the counter medications, as a matter of fact it took me nearly a full year to be able to LD again after I ran out of the first and only batch of supplements, and I had been consistently doing it for 10 years.

Do yourself a favor, research on the myriads of techniques for developing your LD ability without attaching yourself to anything mentioned on this book. And if you are interested in the Toltec path, research even more, because there are causes and consequences to LD which do not pertain to this review but that will be affected by this kind of practices.

4.0 out of 5 stars Helpful Hints, December 4, 2010
This review is from: Advanced Lucid Dreaming: The Power of Supplements (Paperback)
So I didn't buy this book from Amazon, I already owned it prior to signing up for Amazon; but I thought the author deserved a review nonetheless. I've been lucid dreaming since I was about 12 or 13, and while most of my lucid dreams have been DILDs, I've progressed quite nicely in my WILD attempts. Though never a successful WILD, I've always been able to induce sleep paralysis. I've ordered the core trigger described in this book (you'll have to read it to find out what that is exactly ;D), but it hasn't arrived yet.

I'm going to college now, and majoring in nueroscience. I can tell you personally, that all of the author's data supports actual brain chemistry and anatomy. Unlike other "professionals" who claim their method is the only sure fire way to lucid dream, using made up terms and what have you. Thomas Yuschak seems to have done his research, and for those who are interested in methodologies for lucid dreaming based on science and not mysticism GET THIS BOOK!

5.0 out of 5 stars The most important book ever written on lucid dreaming, March 16, 2010
By
Kieran Fox (Alam al-Mithal) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Advanced Lucid Dreaming: The Power of Supplements (Paperback)
[I am amending this review for the 3rd time, as I'm now reading this book for the third time in 2 years and am once again totally blown away. To the praise below I really want to add and emphasize here that this is, in my opinion, the single most important book ever written on lucid dreaming. I can't say I've read them all by any means, but I'm sure I've gone through all the 'classics' and most influential books by Green, LaBerge, Godwin, Waggoner, Garfield, and so on. Many of them are great but no book achieves the sheer practicality and authoritative position Yuschak's does. The lucid dreams these other authors describe and can lead you to are like Disney Land, compared to the interstellar voyages these techniques can provide... Please take this book very seriously. And if you take yourself seriously as a lucid dreamer, you cannot afford to ignore this work or the supplements described, even if ultimately you decide they are not for you.]

This book is very well organized and packed with useful information - it seems hardly a word is wasted. I tried the supplements personally (in particular, galantamine and the extra choline supplements) and the effects were so powerful I am still wondering about it all 2 years later and am almost afraid to try them anymore. The effects reminded me of a high dose of psychedelics: everyone claims and feigns interest of some sort, but once you're really there and beyond that veil, terror seems a constant companion - followed by awe and reverence.

The book contains a lot of references to neurotransmitters and the neurophysiological basis of REM (dream) sleep. I studied neuroscience in school and worked in a psychology dream/sleep/nightmare lab, and as far as I can tell, all the information checks out. Further, Yuschak doesn't refer to professional journal articles the average person can't access; rather, he includes links to websites anyone can access and understand.

Intelligent, cogent, powerful and potentially disturbing - but hey, that's part of the fun, right!?

I have read dozens on dreams and lucid dreaming but this was more important than all of them put together, because it is purely practical. Everything you need to know for extremely high level lucid dreaming is contained in this book; everything you might want to buy (the supplements) is well-explained and links are given for websites where you can get the supplements.

In all my reading about dream exploration, I have never found anyone who seems so experienced and competent in the dreamscape. Typical lucid dream accounts, even by published authors, are short and scattered, and don't involve very lengthy periods of lucidity... this is in a different league altogether. Following the techniques herein and using the recommended supplements I had similar experiences.

If you are actually interested in lucid dreaming for real, personally, powerfully, this is THE book for you. Guaranteed. Recommended for any and all serious lucid dreamers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential For Lucid Dreamer Seeking an Edge, July 28, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Advanced Lucid Dreaming: The Power of Supplements (Paperback)
When I first learned about lucid dreaming, I was hesitant to try some of the aids that were suggested such as weed and nicotine. Then I found this book when I was having a dry spell of lucid dreams. The night before I had one short one and then I got two of the simpler supplements (5-HTP and Choline) and took them as he suggested and used his techniques. The result was a whopping 3 WILDs! (Wake Induced Lucid Dream, its essentially dropping right into the dream world)

His book is concise, reads well and features graphs and comparisons. He tells you what works and offers alternatives to different chemicals if you desire them. He even goes as far as to offer techniques, and these are fantastic. This book may not be for someone who has not had a LD yet and he admits it, but this is an amazing resource. If you are looking for more on lucid dreaming, check out [...]

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Overview of the Topic, April 25, 2009
This review is from: Advanced Lucid Dreaming: The Power of Supplements (Paperback)
Great book on the topic. Covers a range of supplements, what they do, how to take them and what to expect. I found the writing to be straight forward and to the point. I have been using some of the protocols suggested and have had numerous lucid dreams, more then I usually have without them. I would recommend this book to anybody interested in the topic. I am making further comments at http://forresthealth.ning.com/.
