This book has all the details about midi and they are well explained.

Not so advanced
Going through the book i was not so impressed afterall. I also bought the MIDI Powerbook that has more detail and drawings. but considering the difference in age that can be explained. All in all i don't even intend to use it since it is not an addition to the MIDI Powerbook, as i expected.
