This book has a lot of good information but I would have liked for it to include more meal plans and recipes. I was able to take the basics and expand on my own using the internet as a resource for recipes. I have yet to find a really good book on the Mediterranean diet, don't know why that is as this is a hot topic right now, one would think there would be a plethora out...

The Advanced Mediterranean Diet is a great book and I can not recommend it highly enough for those looking for a change in the way they live their lives. The Advanced Mediterranean Diet is more than just a "diet" book, it provides detailed explanations of human physiology, explains in great detail the impact of different foods on the body. The Mediterranean diet is explained well, and the author does a fantastic job of highlighting the many benefits of it and how it can even reverse the effects of medical conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes. The book also puts a heavy emphasis on the importance of exercise, and even gives you a variety of ideas to keep exercising from becoming boring and tedious. On the Dieting side of things, this book offers four different dieting plans based off gender, current weight and activity level, ultimately giving you a diet that will produce results without leaving you starving. On top of all of this, the website for the book is great and offers an opportunity for interaction with the author via Dr. Parker's blog, which is updated regularly. All in all, it seems as if Dr. Parker has gone to great lengths to make The Advanced Mediterranean Diet a refection of his passion for making healthy living in our hustle bustle world both easily manageable and enjoyable. Once again I cannot recommend this book enough!!! Kudos, Dr. Parker!

As someone who has always struggled with weight, I am always looking for books on healthy eating plans that are based on facts and scientific studies. As a physician, I am also looking for books that I can recommend to my patients, no matter how much weight they want to lose or what other health problems they have. "The Advanced Mediterranean Diet" not only gave me a diet plan, it helped me to really understand how diet can help prevent and treat many diseases, even cancer - things I never learned in medical school! It is written in language everyone can understand and contains stories of real people who have been helped by the plan.

It also contains information on diet pills and bariatric surgery pros/cons, the importance of excercise, food choices and recipes that follow the plan (the Santa Fe soup is fantastic!).

I highly recommend this book as a comprehensive plan for everyone, no gimmicks or fad diets. This is a great plan for life!

I am very familiar with diet books , This is the first book which makes it very easy and enjoyable to learn about the mediterranean diet. It is a joy to read , Dr.Parker has done a superp job in talking about what's on every person mind about diet.
Dr.Parker even touch on gastric bypass surgery and other ways to loose weight...the book has many tables and charts which make organizing someone's diet is very easy......it is a must read for any one serious about getting better way to eat and live healtheir...This book is a wonderful gift...

I enjoyed this book a great deal. It has some tangible benefits over other diet books. One thing I liked is that it provides the scientific background for every piece of the plan so you can judge for yourself the basis of the diet. I especially appreciate that the diet does promise results, but does not over-promise. No false promises.
The book advocates physical fitness, which I feel is essential. Most importantly though, the diet plan is customizable and can be followed long-term. Many "fad diets" fail because of the lack of variety. This diet is designed to be lived long term.
The food recommendations are very healthy and will be recognized by readers of Men's Health as powerfoods so I feel very good recommending this book to anyone looking for a healthier way to eat!

Without a trace of hype, Dr. Parker combines clinical experience, knowledge of the scientific literature, and a down-to-earth approach to convey his very sensible dietary prescriptions to the average reader. He inserts handy thumbnail sketches of physiology and nutritional science, explains the health benefits and precautions, and includes chapters on anti-obesity drugs, bariatric surgery, and the special concerns of diabetics. Far from being a martinet, Dr. Parker shows great flexibility in the application of his earnestly argued diet. If you deviate from his diet, he is quick to understand and gently nudge you back onto the right path. To ensure that you are in charge, he gives you a dozen options in each of the food groups, then provides some simple, practical recipes for putting them together. He also explains in some detail how you can best go about getting exercise. And, most disarmingly, he levels with you about his own weaknesses regarding food while showing sympathy for yours. All this within the framework of the Mediterranean Diet, the proven best way to maintain weight--or perhaps to lose it permanently, if you follow Dr. Parker's guidance. I rate this as one of the best of the diet books.

I found this to be a very straightforward and informational book on nutrition and diet. Dr. Parker does a nice job of providing a technical overview and translating the information to real life stories that he has encountered during his medical practice. The book ends up with quick and easy recipes to get you started on the right path to better health and nutrition.

I first found Dr. Parker on the internet. I really liked his website, so I bought the book. Everything he talks about in the general sense of dieting is great. He talks in a common sense way that pulls the information you have heard about how to lose weight into an easy read. After all that, I'm still not sure where the Mediterranean way of eating comes into play. Not much in the way of recepies
to work with. I did like the recommended reading in the back that will probably lead me to the menus I want.
