I have been playing guitar for just over ten years, and I bought this DVD when I had been playing for about six years. It was right about where I needed to be in my playing (I love progressive/experimental metal; bands like Opeth, Gorod, BTBAM. And I play an ESP EC-1000 w/EMG-81 active humbuckers); by that, I mean I was at a place where I didn't really even know what sweep picking was, I wasn't great at hyper picking, and I knew some, but not much, theory. John McCarthy (despite looking like a tool on the front cover) is actually an excellent teacher. He shows everything fast and slow several times, and the DVD includes a tablature book w/everything he shows. I've let friends borrow this, and my other guitarist and I learned everything on it (more or less) together, and we both felt it was all but integral to where we are now... in other words, buy it, man. It'll definitely help you out. Peace.
