Wonderful Manual,
By Chuck V. (Buckhannon, WV USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Advanced Photoshop Elements 5.0 for Digital Photographers (Paperback)
This book, clearly intended for folks with some Photoshop Elements experience, is totally PACKED with suggestions and how-to information. Instructions are very detailed and (so far, at least) absolutely correct. I moved from Elements 3.0 to Elements 5.0, using this book as my manual, and was up and running in minutes, even trying out some new ideas I hadn't thought of or discovered before. It is clearly NOT a book to help the new software owner learn Photoshop Elements, but for anyone with some experience already in digital photo manipulation, it can't be beat!
Thanks to Philip Andrews for a truly excellent book.

Excellent Guide for the non-newbie,
By Tommy (Naperville, Illinois United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Advanced Photoshop Elements 5.0 for Digital Photographers (Paperback)
As an owner of a number of decent Photoshop and Photoshop Elements books, this one is pretty close to the top of the list. It's very well organized, from the table of contents through the presentation of the specific topic of interest. Well illustrated also.
What I also found valuable is that each topic/task has which version of Photoshop Elements it works with. So, even if you're not a Photoshop 5 user, or will be upgrading soon, this would be a good investment. Two other highlights: 1) His treatment of RAW processing...very sane and easy to follow, and 2) presentation of the workflow for digital photography. Wait...one more! The guide on printing is quite good too. If you're like me, you may be very happy with the picture, less than happy with the inkjet print. Good ideas on how to help here. Very impressed with this book. Highly recommend!

I absolutely LOVE this book! If there is ANY question that you may have when editing in Elements 5.0, this book has the answer!! Someone recommended this book to me, and I have not looked back since. I HIGHLY recommend this book to ANYONE who has Elements 5.0. Get it....., you will NOT be sorry!

I purchased the book because it states that you could get many of the test documents as a download. The truth is they are not available and if you go to the link provided, the page is empty.
Other than that I found the book had good information but some of the procedures could not be followed because of the lack of access to the files.

This is the companion book to Philip Andrews' "Photoshop Elements 5 - A Visual Introduction to Digital Photography", also from Focal Press. This title is aimed at those who have mastered the basics covered in the first book and wish to get to grips with some of the more advanced digital imaging techniques that are possible with the software. Containing 11 chapters, the book covers various topics including: camera and scanner techniques, working with RAW files, advanced image changes, darkroom techniques on the computer, making better panoramas, extending your web abilities and producing great prints, to name a few. The companion website is again a great addition to the book, where there are further resources, including videos and all the photos used in the book for you to download and practice on. As a digital photographer myself, I have found all of Philip Andrews' books extremely clear and helpful and this one is no exception. Again, he has written one of the best books available on the subject, in his usual clear and engaging style. The informative step-by-step instructions, full colour screen shots, and the attractive presentation throughout, only serve to reinforce the reasons to buy it.

I constantly go back to it for ideas and "how-to" tips. Keep it in the bathroom, and consult it often. Very helpful and easy to understand, generally ! When will the illustrations used in these self-help books improve ? My biggest complaint because they are so hard to see or not obivious !

To be fair, I have not really spent much time with this book. I bought it mostly because I thought it was really going to take me to the next level. I found that my skill levels were already past this book. It is not a back book and it can be good for someone who is fairly new to Elements. But, I don't know if I would really call it Advance. Overall it is not a bad book.
