4.0 out of 5 stars Advanced Practice Nursing Education
As nursing textbooks go, this one is a keeper. The amount of information in this book is incredible, especially the Internet site information. The only thing preventing it from being a 5 star book is the overall presentation. The writing style is very dry and somewhat redundant. This is a required text for my graduate program so I have to read it but I'm keeping it...

3.0 out of 5 stars Okay but drags on
We are using this book in my grad class. Helpful in understanding the CNS versus NP roles but later on it gets redundant and not very interesting. I know that lots of the information in it will show up on boards so I am keeping it. Just remember to keep a cup of coffee near when you are reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you are an Advanced Practice Nurse or student - this is THE book, June 25, 2007
This review is from: Advanced Practice Nursing: An Integrative Approach, 3e (Hardcover)
What is a CNS? Well, the other advanced practice nurses are fairly easy to understand - but this book says it all. It has been the most used book (okay, well, besides my Rosen's for emergency care) I own. Dr. Hamric is very well respected and known and the respective authors in the book are nationally known and respected. This is THE book and highly recommended for anyone wanting to know about advanced practice nursing, where we came from, the theory behind what we do and why, issues that are facing us and outcomes and more and more. I've used it for EVERY core content class and see myself using it even when I'm practicing. I'm glad that our CNS professor had us purchase this book over any other role book. It really is an excellent resource.

3.0 out of 5 stars required for school, December 12, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The book was okay. I used other resources more than this. Other books I bought for the class were more helpful and an easier read although many of my classmates referenced to this book so it may be more my opinion of text that makes me not like it so much.

1.0 out of 5 stars So many words, so little information..., September 7, 2011
By
Rocket RN (Naperville, IL) - See all my reviews
This book was purchased as a required text for my FNP program. Never before have so many words been utilized to convey so little useful information. The contributors to the text seem to have pulled together statement after referenced statement from the *thousands* of references utilized in compiling such a book. I appreciate the effort that this must have entailed; however, the end result is fragmented strings of other author's ideas piled together. There is no flow in the reading, nor is there much original thought involved in the production of this work. I am not sure that there is enough coffee in Columbia to make it through this text!

3.0 out of 5 stars Need Page Numbers!, September 1, 2011
There are no page numbers to correlate with the print edition! Major problem and I am just starting class! Based on this, I give it 3 stars since I haven't even started reading!

A textbook for school, no matter what I say here... you probably still have to purchase it. No pictures in the whole book (all the pages are slap full of words), so get ready for a long semester!

1.0 out of 5 stars Textbooks without real page numbers are worthless, January 9, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
College students get assignments based on page numbers in a real book (such as see the figure on page 593, or "Read pages 600-623") The Kindle version only has "section numbers" which are useless, and change based upon your current zoom level.

I found out about this problem 10 days later, and now can't get my money back. I have to buy the hard copies of my books all over again, and have to spend double on my books. I will never buy another kindle textbook! I am very angry and feel duped! I also will never again click on the link "tell this author you want this book on kindle". Very disappointing.

UPDATE: I called customer service, and they refunded my money! Amazon customer service rules! But still, don't buy any kindle textbooks unless and until they add the page numbers.

No matter what type of APN you are, this is a good textbook to review the role of the APN as well as the history of our professions. Easy to read and understand, covers the topics completely.

5.0 out of 5 stars Advanced Practice Nursing, September 5, 2008
I am using this book for one of my Master's courses. Some of the reading is dry but it is a good reference book all in all.
