I started reading the series of these books years ago. My father raised me to be a Rhino, before the books came out.I loved them so much I let dad read them. I couldn't get them back.I've traveled a bit.And seemed to misplace mine.So I'm going to purchase them again.Excellent review from entire family.Best book on life,I can relate to.It's a book that won't come out of...

I cannot believe, in this age, one is still able to purchase a book with such hideously backward and uninformed views. The underlying message of the text is profoundly alarming. Alexander is wholly consumed by the hollow notion of the American dream: that, somehow, everybody can succeed if only they worked that bit harder. Unfortunately, life is not so simple. Millions of...

I look back at all the people that I have admired and now I know they were RHINOS. This group of books are great for everyone. I think they would be great for high school student also. Just a great idea and way of living.

I ate this book up. I enjoyed it that much! Much better than his previous book. I suppose because he spoke his mind a little more,.. It was a welcomed change.

Well worth the money, and I highly recommend reading it.

I have to mention, its very interesting some of the things he mentions in his book.. (published 1981) because you see those things happening today.

I have to say, to read this book, your probably going to need to be able to pull off a few things:
1. Have an open mind
2. Be willing to learn
3. Love individual freedom
Doesn't really matter what title you give yourself, but those three things are a minimum requirement to read this.

Anyways, going to quote some things from the book

"If you are looking for an easy way to success, an easy way to happiness, an easy road to riches, an easy out to anywhere, then this book is not for you. Quit looking. There is no easy road to success. A life of adventure, achievement and happiness is not for the thin-skinned and lazy.

Success is success because to achieve it is difficult. To say that success is easy is only cheating those who have become successful. If becoming successful was easy, if anyone could do it, it would not be success, would it? It would be mediocrity!" (THIS IS SPARTA!) I just had to say that last bit..
(pg13)

"It seems that a little green frog had fallen into a rut in a road and could not quite jump high enough to get himself out. His frog buddies were at the top of the ditch urging him on.
"Come on! You can do it!" they would all yell in unison at the top of their frog lungs. The little frog would jump as hard as he could, but he just could not jump high enough, despite everyone's encouragement and advice. After two hours, the frog was still in the rut and his buddies could wait for him no longer. They went hopping away without him.
Later in the day, just as they were getting ready to swim in the lake and do some croaking, the frogs saw their little buddy who had been trapped in the rut. Figuring that he would never get out of there, they excitedly exclaimed, "What happened? How did you get out of the rut?" The frog turned to them and said, "A big truck came down the road and I HAD TO get out!"

Cute little story in one of the the chapters. And there are more. Simple story, but a strong meaning.

"You must give to get. There really is no free lunch, contrary to what the government would have you believe."

That is how the market works, normally when there is no outside interference. You as the business owner provide a service or product that people want. And they buy it happily.

"We owe it to our founding rhinos and to the future rhinos of America to see that our government is restrained or else it would grow larger and more expensive and continue to interfere in the private and business affairs of all of us."

I laughed when I read the line above that I quoted from the book. Not because its funny "ha ha" but because its funny in a ironic, 'this has happened' kind of situation. And its better to laugh than cry right?

"You will occasionally hear from some professional supercow who will tell you that the wealthy accumulate wealth by exploiting the poor. Isn't that the most absolutely asinine statement you have ever heard? If you understand the ONE RULE OF THE FREE ENTERPRISE GAME -YOU MUST GIVE TO GET-"

I recognize this truth even though I don't even own a business and am just a employee in Retail.

Chapter 9 has a great story.. well its actually only a story to us. But in 1979 a lady living in California sent off a letter to the "Los Angeles Times" which I would personally title 'Paycheck Blues'. Its an extremely interesting read.

I'll give the very last bit of it here it quote form.. "America, land of the free-it rings hollow. I'm still proud to be an American, and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else, but I am not as naive as I once was."

So check out the book to see why this lady was thinking this way. Its definitely not a cliche reason. I was actually surprised when I read the letter in the book.

My only regret, like a lot of the books I have read, is that I didn't read this sooner! Going by the date it was published, I could of read it 15 years ago, and been a lot better off in my thinking.

To bad the wonderful business "Amazon.com" didn't exist sooner.

Now off to read the third book. Later.

5.0 out of 5 stars From a seasoned Rhino, April 24, 2007
This review is from: Advanced Rhinocerology: To Help You Through the Jungle (The Rhino Books) (Paperback)
I've been a Rhino for more than 20 years. I have a shelf full of rhino statuettes and when people give me gifts, it's ususally with a rhino theme. Am I obsessed? No, I'm passionate about the subject matter. Some people call the information dated but I say its as fresh as today. Jesus Christ and the Bible never go out of style despite what the ACLU may think.

The books are a great read and will give you a sense of the entitlement mentality that is sucking the life out of our country.

Although some of the examples are a little dated at this point the book is a pretty good read. Basically it says to get off your butt and make something of yourself. Comparing successful people with the traits of Rhinos and the lazy people with the traits of cows. There is definitely some good knowledge to be gleaned from this book.

Scott did it again with this one. Continuing from his first book, this goes to the next level. I can't wait to finish the third book. In fact, even though this is from the 1980's, this book should be redistributed RIGHT NOW! A MUST READ for ANY MBA student willing to actually USE their MBA education.
