Dan Gookin has been writing about technology for over 20 years. He combines his love of writing with his gizmo fascination to create books that are informative, entertaining, and not boring. Having written more over 120 titles with 12 million copies in print translated into over 30 languages, Dan can attest that his method of crafting computer tomes seems to work.

Perhaps his most famous title is the original DOS For Dummies, published in 1991. If you're a programmer who wants to really learn all about computers, or a network administrator, this book will be invaluable. With batch programming you can execute other programs when the computer starts, put a menu in before Windows takes over, map network directories automatically, etc. & so forth. This is a nice hardcover edition, and though printed over 15 years ago, DOS has not changed that much and most of the techniques still apply at the command prompt. You can even call batch programs from executables written in MS programs like VB.net, using the batch programs for invisible file management tasks, etc.
