Review of Advanced Water Dist Modeling and Management,
By Robert M. Clark (Cincinnati, OH United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Advanced Water Distribution Modeling and Management (Hardcover)
Hastead Method's new book entitled Advanced Water Distribution System Modeling and Management is an excellent expansion and extension of its previous book, Water Distribution Modeling. I found the previous book extremely helpful and utilized it many times in my work. The new voulme has been expanded to inculde such important topics as: model skeletonization, demand allocation using GIS, water quality sampling and calibration, integration of modeling and SCADA systems, Genetic-algorithm-based calibration and design, modeling of variable-speed pumps, water system security and hydraulic transients, use of flow emitters and the integration 0f GIS with hydraulic modelng. I expect to use this new text extensively and stongly reccomend it to both beginning and experienced engineers.

Must-have,
By
This review is from: Advanced Water Distribution Modeling and Management (Hardcover)
This is a must-have reference and handbook for civil engineers doing water modeling and design. You do not need Haestad's WaterCAD. However, it does come with a CD with a 25-pipe academic version of WaterCAD. With both theory and practical examples, it's an excellent learning tool. You can also earn CEUs via mini-exams that you send to Haestad (with a fee) for grading. Go to www.haestad.com and you can find the same book on-line - for free! However, it's worth buying the book.

Most complete water resource modelling book ever written...,
By A Customer
This review is from: Advanced Water Distribution Modeling and Management (Hardcover)
This is not your ordinary professional textbook. I normally use these type of books to help me sleep at night, but I find myself reading the chapter after chapter of this Advanced Water Distribution Book. It is more than a reference textbook with it's history timelines, cartoons, practical problem sets, interesting tidbits of info, and so forth. I especially enjoyed the chapters on transients, GIS, and Water Quality.

A Masterpiece,
This review is from: Advanced Water Distribution Modeling and Management (Hardcover)
This is definitely a must-have for any civil engineer involved in hydraulics, especially water modelers. I had been surprised by the quality of the previous Water Distribution Modeling book, but the Advanced edition succeeded my expectations. Its writing is very understandable and it is full of creative illustrations. The chapter about Geographic Information Systems is very well written, and after realizing who were involved in its review (ESRI's staff), I don't wonder about its content anymore.Highly recommended.

It is so difficult to find quality technical manuals for water distribution or any field of engineering for that matter. This book is not only a superb technical document but it is readable! I recommend this book to anyone with any level of interest in water resources.

Advanced Water Distribution Modeling & Management is a very comprehensive text discussing everything you need to know about water system management. I particularly liked the sections on using GIS, transient analysis, and gathering field testing data.

Excellent second edition!,
By James Mead (Bay Area, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Advanced Water Distribution Modeling and Management (Hardcover)
I read the first WDM edition from cover to cover. Now that I have the Advanced WDM, there is so much new material to digest!I especially like the new chapters on GIS (helps us non-GIS folks see the light) and especially TRANSIENT analysis. Its very detailed with technical data, but the illustrations make this an easy chapter to grasp. I would recommend this book to any civil engineer, not only water modelers.

Great to have everything under one roof,

I wish I knew of this book's existence years ago. For too many years, I have been using several other reference books to "answer" my never ending questions and doubts on modeling and related subjects. It even has reference on non-concontinuous flow condition. A great book with lots of "weight." The price was right, too, I received this gem free as a bonus for signing up to attend a wwebcast sponsored by Haestad. |
