4.0 out of 5 stars numerous topics mostly related to the Semantic Web, July 30, 2011
The book spans a variety of information research topics. Of these, many are web related. And specifically for XML processing and the making and use of ontologies. A common driving idea is the so-called Semantic Web and how to best get there.

At a low level, one paper studies the validation of XML documents using UML models and XML schemas. While another paper describes how to get at an XML database via a construct called XMask, when the underlying database is actually relational.

At a higher level, another paper looks at how to merge different ontologies which might be about the same underlying topic. The differences arise when two different organisations tackle how to make an ontology for that topic. Whilst ideally you might think they should cooperate first, in practice this will not happen. This also leads to different but closely related web services. So how to use or merge these is a related problem.

The use of cellphones makes its presence in the book thru a few papers. One describes how to optimise motion detection of a car confined to a known road network. This differs from the case of an arbitrary trajectory of an object on a plane. Here, it is envisioned that knowledge of the car's location as a function of time is needed by other mobile users or perhaps by that car's driver.
