About the Author

Dr. Ken-ichi Sato received his B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electronics engineering from the University of Tokyo in 1976, 1978, and 1986 respectively. Since 1978, he has been at the forefront of research and development in optical fiber transmission technologies, and in the development of Broadband ISDN based on ATM techniques. He is currently a group leader of the Photonic Network Research Group in Optical Network Systems Laboratories at NTT. Dr. Sato has published over 70 research articles, he is a member of the the IEICE, the IEEE Communications Society, and the Advisory Board of the International Journal of Communication Systems. He received the Young Engineer Award in 1984 and the Excellent Paper Award in 1991.
