K9 Advantix works great on my dog. He is a little more active than most and likes to run around in the rain, so the medication doesn't always last a whole month for him. It lasts about two and a half to three weeks if it's raining a lot. It does kill every flea that touches him. Another thing I like about this product is the repelling ability. It kills whatever is on my dog, and keeps new bugs away. I use K9 Advantix every month, and my dog stays happy. Remember: You get what you pay for, and your dog won't be happy if you're using the cheap brands under $10. You might as well throw your money away, because fleas are immune to the lesser-brand medications now.

Also, I'm glad to see Amazon selling this MUCH cheaper than other stores. I went all over the internet looking for cheap meds for my dog. Then I thought, I'll check out Amazon, they sell everything. Shop around, you'll see.

I tried Advantix (as opposed to Advantage) for the first time recently and immediately noticed that my dog was having a strong reaction to it. She stayed up all night panting heavily and periodically would run in circles. I checked the package insert and it said nothing about possible adverse reactions, and the product website also failed to warn of potential problems. However, I read on a vet's site that Advantix, unlike Advantage, is known to cause a variety of side effects, including hyper-activity, which was obviously what was going on with my dog. This site said not to use the product again in the event of a bad reaction. Not only was I unhappy with the product, but was upset that Bayer didn't bother to list possible side effects. Very irresponsible. I won't use any of their pet products again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beyond wonderful for fleas, and NIH says the same for ticks!, August 12, 2006
By
Caraleisa (West Chester, PA) - See all my reviews
(VINE VOICE)
Our two dogs became infested with fleas a couple years ago. We tried a ton of different medications, and were about to 'bomb' the house when our vet recommended K9 Advantix. Within one week there were NO fleas, not on the dogs, not in the house. Before using K9 Advantix, I'd sit at night picking fleas off our one poodle, and we were desperate for a solution. This is a fabulous product. As we didn't have experience with ticks or mosquitos when using this product, I can't comment on them, but for fleas, this is the best. I was told by a salesperson at Petsmart that Advantix has a repellant in it besides something to kill the fleas, and Frontline, its main competitor, has only a flea killer, which won't work until the flea bites the dog.

In addition, I found a review by the NIH regarding the two medications for ticks and I quote an excerpt from the abstract: "The number of live ticks on the control dogs ranged from a geo. mean of 12.0 to 29.5 ticks per dog during the study. Percent efficacy for the K9 Advantix group ranged from 84.0 to 98.5 % between test days 3 and 35. Percent efficacy for the Frontline Plus group ranged from -28.1 to 56.8% during the corresponding period."

You can find this study report yourself by googling as shown with the quotes: "K9 Advantix vs Frontline".

Sounds pretty definitive to me. We're sticking with Advantix.

1.0 out of 5 stars ADVANTIX KILLED MY DOG!!, April 29, 2008
Although I have used Advantage safely for years, Bayer has added a toxic pesticide Permethrin, to it's formula to market the once flea only product for ticks also...The very same Permethrin sold over the counter as Bio-Spot your vet will tell you is unsafe....Do a google on Advantix toxic, Permethrin toxic & see the results....My Min-Pin started showing signs of neurologicalproblems the very next day...I regret applying at night before going to bed as I could not do a thing the net day...I tried washing the product off 3 times with soapy Dawn, but it was too late....He became confused, lethargic, spaced out without ability to focus...later couldn't even go out to pee...He died 3 days after application.....Bayer denied any of the symptoms exhisted before & said it must have been something else...The dog was in good health, & never left the house after application ....The neurological symptoms came within hours of application...I MISS My "Little Man"....Permethrine IS POISON for your yard...read the warnings...My dog died from this product advantix...don't believe the marketing & advertising HYPE by Bayer....it's all for money at the expense of sme pets reactions....do the research BEFORE!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Flea Prevention On the Market, July 29, 2005
By
I have used this product on my active pointer since he was just a young pup and he has yet to ever have a flea or tick. I have found ticks on him, but they were dead. This product is wonderful. You have to remember though, its very important to not bathe your dog within 48 hours of applying the Advantix because it works with the natural skin oils and they must not get wet for around 24 hours or so afterwards to achieve maximum effect.

This product is great! He gets into trees, ponds, bushes, fields, etc. and never brings home fleas or ticks. Which is nice because the cat wouldn't appreciate that. It is worth the hefty price you shell out for it. Once a flea gets into your home, they are everywhere. It is very difficult to remove fleas from your home once there is an infestation. Best to place this product on your dog to prevent it from happening to begin with.

1.0 out of 5 stars K-9 ADVANDIX FLEA CONTROL, October 23, 2007
My dog almost died from this product from the ingredient Permethrin. Within 8 hour of applying the correct amount to my dog he was crying and hallucinating pulling his hair out.His body was twitching, and his back legs would not move. I immediately washed him with Dawn detergent, but this still did not help. I took him to the vet and they started injections of atropine the antidote for Permethrin, and was hospitlized. He is now experiencing kidney problems, and fluid in the lungs from this.My vet bill has reached $823.21 and it's still not over.My vet refuses to carry this product it's deadly for some pets.

1.0 out of 5 stars My poor little dog is in agony, August 21, 2007
I would never have applied this product to my dog if I had known what it would do. I applied it as directed, and everywhere it touched her skin is inflamed and red, her whole body is hot and she is in agony, twitching and whimpering. She keeps trying to scratch her back and cannot sleep or relax. I am waiting for a return call from the vet now. Please do not use this product, I feel horrible because I was just trying to help her and I will never forgive myself if she dies. Once I realized there was a problem, I immeadiately washed her with dishsoap but it didn't help. I will say that my other two dogs are just fine after application, but it isn't worth the chance.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible Side Effects, March 24, 2008
My dog (Cairn Terrier mix) had terrible side effects from this medication. Not only did he scratch his back to the point where it bled, but he acted completely bizarre for approximately 6 days -- my dad called him the LSD dog. He was jumpy and paranoid and just seemed miserable and haunted.

After I returned the remainder of the medication to the vet, I told him what had happened and he said he'd never heard any other complaints about Advantix, but after a quick search of the internets, I realized I was not alone. Bayer needs to put a warning on this product -- if your dog experiences any side effects, bathe him/her *immediately* using Dawn liquid detergent.

Clearly every dog is different. The good reviews are from people whose dogs did not have a bad reaction, but if you've never used it before, why take the chance when you have other options? I have since switched to Frontline Plus with no problems. (We used Revolution in the past, which was fine, but it is not effective against ticks.)

5.0 out of 5 stars worked wonders for my 200 lb. mastiff, November 4, 2006
I bought this item for my english mastiff when we had a flea nest in our yard this summer. The fleas were not only on him but also in his bedding and in my house because of him. Within a few days of using our first treatment, his fleas were gone and even with him going outside daily, we did not have any additional problems for the rest of the summer when I used this as directed.

It was well worth any price and the product delivered as promised.

1.0 out of 5 stars Almost killed my dog!, August 19, 2007
I used K9 Advantix because I was bringing my dog with me on vacation into tick-infested woods. I used three-quarters of the 20 lb. dose on my 13 lb. poodle. Approx. 12 hours after application, she began to have terrible neurological symptoms, running around and crying, jerking and jumping. Her nose became very hot and her breathing became rapid and shallow. We were up all night. By the time I got instructions over the telephone to wash it off with liquid dish detergent, it had been 24 hours. She survived, but the cartilage in her throat has been damaged and her bark is permanently changed. If you are using this product for the first time, PLEASE use only half the recommended dose and standby with the liquid dish detergent. If your dog can stand it, you can apply the rest two days later. The only antidote for permethrin poisoning is to wash it off with liquid dish detergent within the first 24 hours! Many dogs have been injured, and deaths have been attributed to K9 Advantix. If you feel you must use it, first read the horror stories on [...] on the K9 Advantix topic. Bayer Animal Health will tell you it is perfectly safe. Don't believe them!
