Poor sound quality, like a bad cb,

(did not purchase from amazon.com)Bought as a father's day gift, very disappointing. Brand new item. easy hook up. takes batteries or included a/c jack. reception quality horrible even from 30 feet away in house (2walls) outdoors even worse. technology is not here yet for wireless frequencies. hardwiring the best sound still, looking into weather proof wiring.

This product simply did not work. I returned it (no questions asked) and purchased a wireless speaker at Brookstone which although more expensive...$150...works very well.

I bought one of these a few years ago -- not from Amazon. Most of the time it collects dust in the corner, but occasionally I remember to bring it outside for a party or while doing yard work and it works as advertised. You have to fine-tune it to work on the proper frequency -- and the interface is not intuitive (one can easily change the frequency and terminate the reception while trying to adjust the volume) -- but it saved me from buying a full set of outdoor speakers. Not a glowing review, to be sure, but it's better than a one-star product.

Not Bad, but not Terrific,

I actually have Two of these. One I bought on clearance from Home Depot & the other used on eBay.
Why Two? Because the speakers can be set for Monaural or Right or Left channel. Setup is rather easy, although the speakers need a light touch on the frequency reception control knob depending on the conditions of the placement and distance of the transmitter from the speakers. Personally, I would have liked separate Power & Volume controls. I use my speakers in my backyard when I entertain and when I'm working on projects there. Halloween night, the speakers get moved into the front yard and hidden behind fake tombstones to provide the perfect audio soundtrack backdrop to Scare The Little Monsters Who Darken My Doorstep. ( [...]) When it comes to audio quality, hard-wired speakers would sound much better; but placement issues with wiring limit your choices. As wireless speakers go, the audio quality is pretty good; but not terrific.....if I wanted Terrific, that would cost a lot more than I'm willing to afford. So a balance was struck between Cost & Quality. If you're not one of those High-Fidelity Snobs, I wouldn't hesitate to give my Thumbs Up to some Average Joe wanting my opinion.

I owned this product for 3 years before it failed. I am not happy that it's quality was this poor. The audio quality was decent but Advent's newer products sound much better. The reception on this product was very good. I used it on my deck which is about 40' from the transmitter. Unless you are buying this for $20 or less, I wouldn't purchase it.

Now that we have ipods with a portable stereo we don't really need this but still use hooked up to our stereo. We have left it outside now for 2 years (winter excluded) and it still works great.
