5.0 out of 5 stars The adventure continues!
I purchased the Adventure Bible, NIV as a gift for my eight year-old son.

3.0 out of 5 stars Leather look-alike....
I was hoping this would be a durable bible for my daughter at school but its really a leather look-a-like on paper. The content of the bible is fine, but had I known the feel of the cover, I'd have bought the hardback.
I'll keep it for a backup though.

5.0 out of 5 stars The adventure continues!, April 1, 2009
This review is from: Adventure Bible, NIV (Hardcover)
I purchased the Adventure Bible, NIV as a gift for my eight year-old son.

He already had a children's Bible but was interested in a more in-depth study. He often asked me about my NIV Bible translation, and tried to read it, but the text-heavy style was a bit intimidating and it was difficult for him to understand.

The Adventure Bible, NIV turned out to be the perfect solution! While remaining true to the NIV translation, the sidebar stories, Biblical character descriptions and the Ten Commandments (explained in terms children can easily understand) help make stories that are thousands of years old relevant to life today, and particularly the life of a child.

We especially enjoyed the Ten Commandments section. When the Adventure Bible gave a thorough explanation of the first commandment, for example, about not making anything more important than God -- not television, not video games or toys etc. I could tell that a lightbulb was switched on!

My son read through a text he thought he knew and with a beaming smile said "Mom, I finally get it!"

I would highly recommend the Adventure Bible, NIV to any parent who wants to instill a love of God's word -- in relevant language -- in their children.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource, September 20, 2008
By
This review is from: Adventure Bible, NIV (Paperback)
This bible takes all the questions young people have about Jesus and finds an engaging way to answer them. Colorful pages include fun images and pose these questions with a bible verse that can help them find the answer. Call-out boxes include side information about bible times or pose questions about the text for young readers to consider. The Ten Commandments are highlighted on their own page with wording that young readers can easily digest. A page shows bible references to kids of the bible, and of course there is the treasure hunt aspect located at the back of the book. The bible text is written true to adult versions so the message is fully intact.

4.0 out of 5 stars Update, August 29, 2008

Purchased several copies of this to present to 1st graders at church. It seems to be an update of the version we've used the past few years, but all that has really changed is the cover. The children we've given them to the last few years seem to appreciate them; they bring them to church and use them in Sunday School.

5.0 out of 5 stars Son loves it, January 6, 2009
This review is from: Adventure Bible, NIV (Hardcover)
We gave this to our son for Christmas, and it was one of his favorite gifts. He sat for several minutes after opening it, reading through the variety of pages including the map section, before moving on to other presents. This was a graduated step up toward the full text... he already had an interest in reading the Bible, as he had received a simpler children's Bible a couple of years ago. And the scripture memorization program he's part of at church has helped develop his interest as well. It seems that at least for kids who tend to enjoy learning, this Bible seems to be a good fit.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice bible for a young starter, October 16, 2008
This review is from: Adventure Bible, NIV (Hardcover)
I ordered this hardback NIV bible for some kids in church, inlcuding my son. The price is unbeatable at Amazon.

As for the bible itself, i think hardback version is better for young kids and I hope it will last till they grow to be teenagers. Contents are nice, with some verses and key notes and points. The only thing i don't like is the paper weight of the content pages. It could be a little bit heavier(thicker) while this one you could almost see thru the print on the reverse side. Other than that, I would give it 5 stars instead.

5.0 out of 5 stars Makes a great gift for Bible Sunday, December 30, 2008

This book is of a new design. The children like it better then the old version. These books were purchased as a gift for our 2nd and 3rd grade Sunday School class as a celebration to Bible Sunday. It is an easy to read NIV version with a lot of little extra facts inside. The price was excellent especially with Amazon Prime's 2 day free shipping. It helped a lot.

5.0 out of 5 stars Zonderkidz Adventure Bible for Kids Review - Perfect for Easter, April 5, 2011
By
Tracy DeLoach (JACKSONVILLE, FL, US) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Adventure Bible, NIV (Hardcover)
I don't know if I've mentioned it before, but this year I have had a strong desire to provide each of my family members with a bible. I was thinking how much it means to have a bible that was given to you from someone special. I cans still remember my earliest bible. I hope that my first one is still packed up in a box somewhere. You know how things get lost or stolen (in one case of mine). The idea of my son, grandkids, nieces and nephews having a bible keepsake when they're old and saying that was from Mom, Grandma, Aunt Tracy means a lot to me.

When Zondervan asked if I would like to review the NIV Adventure Bible, without a doubt I said yes. I thought this would be the perfect bible for my 10 year old grandson Zack and my 8 year old granddaughter Ki'a, but I wanted to know more.

The Adventure bible didn't disappoint. It's a wonderful fun way to teach your children the lessons of the bible without it seeming like a lesson. I wish the NIV Adventure Bible was available when I was young. The Adventure Bible is more like an exciting journey with a jungle safari theme. The NIV (New International Version) is so easy to read and this is written specifically with children ages 9 to 12. I love that each book of the Bible begins with a introduction of useful facts answering key questions like the following:

Who wrote this book?

Why was this book written?

What do we learn about God in this book?

Who are the key people in this book?

When did this happen?

Where did this happen?

What are some of the stories in this book?

What a smart idea. I mean, would you go to a book store and pick up a book with no preface or a cover picture to give you some idea whether it was a suspense, love story, or comedy? Fiction or non-fiction? Well can we expect our children to form an interest if you don't present it to them in an easy to read form they can relate to.

There are colorful pages, games, a scavenger hunt and other bible fun with a jungle safari theme.

This book is full of introductions, a dictionary/concordance and colorful maps. There are bold colorfully illustrated pages that highlight the Ten Commandments, The Lord's Prayer, the 12 disciples, Famous Children of the Bible and even bible verses to read when you feel scared, angry, worried, unimportant and more.

I highly recommend this bible for the tween age children in you home. It's certain to be a conversation builder between you and them. I'd love to see my son and daughter-in-law use this bible to pick out a passage to have the children read each day and then discuss over dinner. I have a feeling the kids will begin to look forward to it even more than you.

With Easter only a couple of weeks away, I can't think of a better gift to explain the relevance of the Easter season than with this bible. I plan on sending an Easter box with this being the main attraction.

Disclosure: I was not paid for my endorsement of this Bible. Zondervan / Zonderkidz sent me this bible to review in exchange for my honest opinion. Transparency is everything.

I wish I'd had access to the Adventure Bible when I was growing up. I love it, and so do the children at our church. A wonderful investment, and we have purchased another set for a different age group as well. Great service also.
