2.0 out of 5 stars Adventure?
Hardly and adventure guide to the Bahamas, this guide gave only brief mention to various outdoor sports and focused mainly on dining, shopping, and lodges. The information of dive spots is much more detailed in numerous other guide books. An average introduction to the Bahamas, but seriously lacking in detail. Please change the title.

John G. Bennett (Governor's Harbour, Eleuthera, Bahamas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Adventure Guide to the Bahamas (Paperback)
This book does not purport to be exhaustive, and, certainly, it is not. But for the price, it is an excellent introduction to a relatively unknown part of the world, The Bahamas. This group of islands seems to have some of the best fishing, diving, and boating in the world, and you can feel it in these pages, which is a switch from most other bigger, more expensive books. Loved the part about Eleuthera.

3.0 out of 5 stars "Adventure" guide?, December 8, 2010
I must second what another reviewer wrote, that is, this is far from being a good guide for someone looking for any details about hiking/outdoors in the Bahamas. Most space is devoted to dining/hotels/casinos. Today I was amused by finding "Golf" and "Gambling" listed as sub-sections of a chapter called "Adventures on land" for Grand Bahama. This speaks volumes about what you can expect from this book. Very little space devoted to history, hiking, natural areas outside of underwater activities. I was hoping to find a guide similar to DeFreitas' "Adventures in Nature Caribbean", which is really excellent but unfortunately does not cover the Bahamas.

This guide really is just a short introduction to these Islands and is more appropriate for a "standard" tourist looking for standard tourist attractions. Given the low price of the book on the web the quality/price ratio is still not bad at all, but this guide is overall highly inadequate for someone looking for good information on outdoors activities on land in the Bahamas and even as a standard travel guide is no more than average. I would buy it again given the price, but do keep your expectations low.

This review is from: Adventure Guide to the Bahamas (Paperback)
"These useful guides are highly recommended... " Library Journal "[Adventure Guides] direct you away from the theme parks and into the great outdoors... the information on trekking routes, canoeing, wildlife refuges - even golf courses - is well researched." The Sunday Telegraph "...intended for the adventure-minded travelers with special affection for the outdoors and nature. Each Adventure Guide packs in outdoor-oriented activities set in different regions. There's something for nearly everyone." Midwest Book Review
