Book Description

Adventure Guides Series July 2003
From fiery volcanoes to historic churches dating back to the 1600s, Guatemala is a feast for explorers looking for new experiences. This adventure guide details how you can sail on Lake Atitlan, raft on Rio Candelera, hike to Maya ruins, dive a barrier reef or take a bike tour around Antigua. There are also details on Guatemala's culture and traditions, and how to travel with respect for the country and its welcoming people. The series of "Adventure Guides" are about living more intensely, waking up to your surroundings and truly experiencing all that you encounter. Each book offers a mix of practical travel information along with activities designed for everyone, no matter what their age or ability. 4.0 out of 5 stars Necessity if you want to trek, volcano-climb, raft, February 27, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Adventure Guide to Guatemala (Adventure Guides Series) (Paperback)
My friend and I traveled with the Lonely Planet Guatemala book (published Jan. 2004) and with this book. They complemented each other very well. Lonely Planet has terrific practical info (bus schedules, etc.) but little info on how to climb volcanoes, go trekking, rafting, horseback riding, etc. Adventure Guide to Guatemala had what we wanted: volcano/trekking-off-the-beaten-path info. Our travel style is extremely independent (we wanted to ascend volcanoes without a guide) but the book is very appropriate as well for people who prefer to work through formal ecotour companies or guides, or people who can afford nicer ecolodges and bed-and-breakfasts. They are all listed in this book. There is extensive information on how to explore the Mayan archaeological sites.
