5.0 out of 5 stars Essential and Packable Emergency Kit Item April 1, 2010
Color Name:707708211386| Size Name:One Size|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is one of those things that your emergency kit - whether in your car, for camping, or backpacking - should not be without. It is lightweight but effective and packs down incredibly small, about the size of a 4 fluid ounce bottle. The bivvy sack comes in it's own small bag with a drawstring and there is still room inside to include additional small emergency supplies. It is so light and so inexpensive, there really isn't a good reason not to have one of these as an emergency backup shelter. It is especially good for dayhikes, where you don't want to pack a lot; there is ALWAYS a possibility of a dayhike going wrong when you hike far and are remote (getting lost or injured) and if you absolutely have to spend the night when you didn't expect to, you'll be glad you tossed this little guy in the pack.

While the material is reasonably strong, it can still be torn by shoes, keys, and other sharp objects, greatly reducing its effectiveness as a survival shelter. This is something that you have to climb into and there is only room for one, so take that into account if you are seeking to provide emergency shelter provisions for more than one. I personally feel this is superior to other emergency blankets as it is basically a tube rather than a sheet, and the material seems more durable than others I have looked at.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works Great!!!! July 15, 2011

I can't praise the Adventure Medical Kits Sol Emergency Bivvy, enough. It's small, lightweight, and works great. I used it one night on the Appalachian Trail in Georgia during a Thunderstorm. It got down to the 30's as well. I won't say I was comfortable and warm in it (It's made to keep you alive only), But I made it through the night, completely dry too!, also there wasn't any condensation build up in side it either. Great Product.

4.0 out of 5 stars Could save a life February 14, 2012
By Gunner
I purchased several of these bags and had a different expierence as those who posted the product as garbage. As an avid backpacker these were purchased as emergency blankets/shelters. Prior to actually using the product on a trail in an emergency situation, the bivvy was used in a controlled test situation on my property. The outside temp was 40 deg and placing on a small bed of leaves I was able to fit my 6ft frame inside the bag. While not completely warm, I was able to keep my body temp high enough to prevent hypothermia. Keep in mind that in any emergency you will need an insulator under your body or the earth will draw away your body heat.

In a driving rain the product can also keep you dry which is a key to survival.
Additionally, I move around quite a bit and the product did not tear.

I also carry a Mylar tube tent,550 para cord and a fire starter as a basis for my emergency shelter and warmth. Having only one product to use in an emergency is not being prepared and your chances of death are likely.

Never rely on a product without first trying the item in actual conditions.
