It saves weight and space, but that's about it.

I recently purchased this item and I was initially impressed with the material and design. I used the bivy as a sleeping bag during a summer backpacking trip instead of taking my normal down bag along. It was super light and it didn't take up alot of space in my backpack. The temp dropped into the upper 60's at night and all I needed to do was cover myself with the bivy. I didn't even get into the bag. There were no condensation problems. I was totally comfortable. The material isn't crinkly like a space blanket.

The two problems I encountered were the bivvies I purchased did not have the foot vents, even though Adventure Medical Kits advertises there are. The thread used for the velcro is weak. Some of the stitching is unraveling from the velcro and I've only opened the bag portion a few times. That's the reason for the 3 star rating.

Otherwise, it's a good product and it definitely could save your life in a survival situation. Be gentle on the material though. If you want a cheap, featherweight summer sleeping bag, this is the way to go also.

I purchased this bivvy sack to use over an old-style sleeping bag while sleeping in my car at a campground in Sequoia in late May. It did what I wanted providing an extra level of warmth to the sleeping bag. Overnight temperatures were down into the 30s and I was plenty warm. The first night I slept with the bivvy sack fully covering the sleeping bag and found the ground-side of the sleeping bag soaking wet in the morning, so the following night I folded down the back of the bivvy sack so it wasn't covering that side of the sleeping bag. You do want to be careful handling it because if you're too rough with it it will rip.

I've had this in my SAR pack for a few years never having to use it, until this week. Had an unexpected overnight in the Marble Mountain Wilderness area during a recent search. Temps were in the 40's so not really cold but it had been raining most of the day and even after sitting by a fire to get that damp feeling to go away, still felt damp when I climbed into the bag on hard and damp soil. Had a plastic garbage bag underneath for awhile but since the ground wasn't flat, we slipped off that in no time. Was never cold all night and while I didn't get much if any sleep, this bivvy did what it was supposed to do and kept me warm. My SAR teammate had one as well and we were both very pleased!

Good quality materials. Good little stuff sack. Insulation is great. For feather-weight camping, survival gear or emergency car pack, this could not be better.

The Bivy 2 is big enough for the oversized person and yet is small enough to fit in backpack with alot of room to spare.Comes with it's own stuff bag.

As noted in one of the other reviews, this is not the newer version of this product, which features the Terma-Lite 2 material (which is lighter and stronger that the original). There appears to be some error in the internal logic that generates the Amazon's product page that causes the product description to sometimes refer to the original (which is what you actually get) and sometimes the newer version.

This bag is the perfect size and weight for my emergency kit. It's small, light and easily portable. If there should be a true emergency where I need to sleep in an emergency blanket, I don't want to try and keep one of those small silver "space blankets" around me all night while my feet are sticking out or my arms are freezing. This is just what it says - a sleeping bag size & shape for emergencies. Not a bag to be used over & over for camping.

After receiving it, I waited for a cold night (cold is relative - here in California it was in the high 30's that evening). I left the sliding door to my bedroom open all night and slept in the bivy wearing a tshirt and underwear. I was very comfortable all night, so I think it would be just fine for a few nights if it came down to an emergency situation. I was able to roll it back up and get it back into the bag without much problem, and bought a 2nd one for my child. Love it!

..I ordered (what was advertised as) the AMK Thermo-Lite 2.0, and was excited to find it at a good price. I too was sent the AMK Thermal Bivy instead. I have sent an e-mail back to both the Seller and Amazon, and am waiting to hear back. However I did take it out to see about the stitching as another reviewer mentioned.. sure enough it was cheap and already unravelling and there was a tear in the fabric at the seams. I'm disappointed, but hopefully the seller and/or Amazon will make things right by sending the advertised product, and adjusting this glitch as another reviewer had mentioned.

I'm rating this one star since I needed this for a pinch, and am setting out in just a few days.. if things are made right I will adjust my rating.
