Adventure Time: Hey Ice King! Why'd you steal our garbage?! Collector's Edition

Img1

Adventure Time: Hey Ice King! Why'd you steal our garbage?! is the first video game based on the radical, Emmy nominated Cartoon Network show about two close friends - Jake, a wise old dog with a big kind heart, and Finn, a silly kid who wants more than anything else to become a great hero. Players will explore the Land of Ooo and set out on heroic quests, as their favorite characters Finn and Jake, in a unique action adventure experience. Adventure Time show creator Pendleton Ward is also heavily involved with the game creation, including the design of a brand new storyline, concept, and quests.
Finn and Jake wake up one morning to find their trash stolen by the Ice King! Jake couldn't care less about half-eaten bananas, crumpled up math notes, and old chicken diapers - but when the Ice King uses these stolen goods to construct a Garbage Princess, our heroes embark on a fantastical adventure and teach him a lesson! Journey through the Land of Ooo in an offbeat adventure and discover perilous dungeons, unimaginable treasures, the true meaning of friendship, and never-ending fun!

3.0 out of 5 stars Kind of fun for fans, but VERY short and simple. November 22, 2012
Platform for Display:Nintendo 3DS|Edition:Collector's Edition
Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
I'm a huge fan of the animated series and after hearing Pendleton Ward (the creator of the series) wrote the game, I wanted to check it out. The game plays similar to Zelda 2 for NES. There's an overworld but when you fight enemies, it goes into a side-scrolling environment. It looks great, very similar to the show, and there's a lot of characters spread throughout. And the writing is spot-on.

My main problem with the game is how short it is. I beat the entire game in 3 1/2 hours. All of the "quests" are fetch-style and "leveling" your stats just comes down to finding a chest with a stat boost inside and applying the boost to Health, Attack, or Speed. This game is obviously directed towards children, but I feel that children would be confused by the backtracking required to progress (ESPECIALLY near the end of the game). An example would be that an NPC asks for an item that is in a town that you were last in an hour ago and to get the item, you have to go to another place, get an item and take it to trade for ANOTHER item to give to the NPC that asked for it. Not bad at all for someone over 14 or so, but very hard to grasp for a child.

There is a new game plus mode after you beat the game, where you get to keep your stats and play thought the game again. It's a nice addition if you like that kind of thing (I don't tend to play "adventure" games more than once, though).

If you're a fan of the show, check it out, but wait til it drops a few bucks in price. If you're not a fan, it would more than likely be a pass. And if you're thinking about buying it for your kids, understand that the game is not "linear" (it is, but with very little hand-holding).

Hope this helps!

5.0 out of 5 stars HOLY SHMOW, IT'S MATHEMATICAL!!!!!!! November 20, 2012

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Got this in the mail just the other day and have not been able to put it down. It has so many little things that are just awesome.
I did get the collectors edition, Finn's sword stylist is pretty neat. The Enchiridion tin game case is top bloobies.

If you are an adventure time fan or know someone who is and has a 3DS, get this. you will not be disappointed.

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Specifics on the 3DS Collectors Edition:
Small fold out map is kind of useless, but neat. The "Book of Beasts" was a good little read on the different enemys in the game. The stylus looks like Finn's golden sword, all the way to the tip where it narrows to the standard stylus tip. The Steelbook case was very well done! It looked just like in the show, has some nice reflective paint on it, and stores the gabe box, stylus, map, instructions, and Book of Beasts easily.

Will upload a video unboxing of it later, can't just use my Youtube link...

GAME REVIEW:

Console Played: Nintendo 3DS (also available on the DS). The 3d made it look a bit like a pop-up book, with parallax scrolling of the background layers. It was enjoyable with or without this feature. Luckily, I believe the DS and 3DS versions are priced the same.
Completion Time: less than 8 hours.
Difficulty: Low.
Demographic: the 7 to 13 years range OR anyone who is an Adventure Time fan.

I'm a big biased fan of the TV series. When I heard there was going to be a Nintendo DS game coming out I was elated.

The game starts in a dream sequence that does nothing other than set you up for the tutorial. Most of the game is played in a side view platformer. You can punch (later use a sword), kick, and long punch with Jake who has taken up residence in your backpack. The world map is a top down view similar to Pokémon or the original Dragon Quest games. You can get into battles on the world map if you run into a dark shadow thing that appears. These can largely be avoided though.

Inside cities you can talk to the populace to either get quests or tips on what to do next. I made sure to read as many of these as possible because I like the humor and writing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Take humor, wackiness, and Zelda II and you have... November 24, 2012
Platform for Display:Nintendo 3DS|Edition:Collector's Edition
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
..."Adventure Time: Hey Ice King! Why'd you steal our garbage?"

Let me start off with this; This is a must have for any Adventure Time, Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, or both lover.
The game's mathmatical!

The power-ups are cool, the many characters are great to see, and the lines are hilarious. True Adventure Time humor.

Not to mention the great collector's edition bonuses, like the sword stylus, or the bestiary guide book, or the sweet steel book case.
All for only $10.00 more!

So thank you Ice King, for stealing their garbage...okay that sounds a bit weird but still, this game is brilliant! And it isn't Adventure Time with garbage-stealing.
Or knife-wielding bunnies for that matter.

Anyway,
highly recommended from
Captain Whatsit

5.0 out of 5 stars Mathematical! January 9, 2013
Platform for Display:Nintendo 3DS| Edition:Collector's Edition|Verified Purchase
I love Adventure Time, and Collector's editions. So I couldn't ask for a better combo! Collector's editions for 3DS games are pretty limited but I guess that makes sense since it's just a handheld.

5.0 out of 5 stars My son LOVES it!! January 6, 2013
Platform for Display:Nintendo 3DS| Edition:Collector's Edition|Verified Purchase
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
When my son first heard about this game, he got so excited. I ordered him the Collector's Edition since it came with the cool little stylus, book of beasts, and case. Definately worth the extra 10 dollars. He got it for Christmas and has loved playing it. He only gets a limited amount of screen time per day, so it took him a few days to complete it.

My son got 12 games for Christmas, but so far has only played this one. That is how much he loves it. He says it is easy, but is a lot of fun. Perfect for any Adventure Time fan.

My son has started using the Enchiridion outer case for holding his 3DS and stylus. The 3Ds fits inside perfectly.
