Wow!,

This review is from: The Adventurer (Mass Market Paperback)
Book two in the trilogy. Long ago Emelina Fleetwood made a geometric map to the location of where she hid her five pairs of gemstone earrings and pasted it down to the next generation of Fleetwood women. Now in present time, Sarah is using the map to find the jewels. She contacts Gideon Trace, the treasure hunter, to help her.The problem is that someone else is hunting the treasure as well and has a deadly history with Trace. In addition, Sarah is convinced that Trace is the man for her and is determined to make him realize it. ***Treasure hunting is the fantasy of many people. This author made that fantasy into a very cute story. In my opinion, readers will find this story, as well as the entire trilogy, as time well spent!***

Best of older Krentz,

This review is from: The Adventurer (Mass Market Paperback)
Plot Summary: Sarah Fleetwood has always gone with her instincts, and her gut instincts are telling her that Gideon Trace is her hero. Sarah wants to find the Fleetwood Flowers, gold and gem earrings owned (and buried) by her ancester Emelina. And Gideon, an expert on treasure hunting with whom Sarah has been corresponding, is just the man to help her find them. But Gideon isn't quite sure what to make of Sarah when she arrives on his doorstep and tells him just that!Krentz used to write a lot of category romances, and if you read a number of them, you begin to notice similarities between all her heroes and heroines. "The Adventurer" is not an exception. It is, however, one of the best of Krentz's earlier work, with enough freshness to keep it above the pack. Sarah is an immensely appealing character, impulsive, warm, and caring, and so forgiving of Gideon's defensiveness. Gideon is a wonderfully protective hero (even if he clueless about his own feelings). Their adventure -- to find the Fleetwood Flowers -- makes for an interesting plot surrounding their romance, and is intertwined enough in the development of that romance to make it intriguing. This is, in my opinion, the best of this trilogy, and one of the best of Krentz's work from the 80's. Enjoy!

Simply lovely,

A great respite from some of JAK's latest books like FLASH and EYE OF THE BEHOLDER (serious duds) is this reprint of THE ADVENTURER. I loved the adventure, I loved the hero, I loved the heroine, I loved the cats. Heck, I even loved the villain. Although the samples of Sarah's writing were silly purple prose that would never be published in real life, I forgave the story-within-a-story nonsense because the *real* story was so wonderful.I think Gideon Trace is arguably Krentz's best hero. He was daring and bold, with a great deal of chutzpah (sorry, to explain his chutzpah would give away the end), but wasn't brash and overbearing and was a man who knew where his talents lay. This story is just great. I only wish it had been fleshed out into a novel suitable of being released in hardcover. THE ADVENTURER is some of Jayne Ann Krentz's best work. Don't miss it!

enjoyable reprint,
This review is from: The Adventurer (Mass Market Paperback)
This is book 2 in a series of Harlequin temptations reprint. It is typically JAK so great fun. If you missed them first time around and are a big fan of JAK, I am sure you will appreciate the reprint. If you are a fan of JAK and keep her stuff - CHECK YOU OLD TEMPTATIONS - they were the Pirate, The Adventurer and the Cowboy - in that order. In this one, Emelina Fleetwood is the descendant of a lady gold hunters, a former schoolteacher than spent a summer in the 1800'hunting for god and found it. She used the gold to buy five pair of jewelled earrings, each in the shape of one of her favourite flowers. Before her death, she hide the treasure and created a map, which is now in the hands of Emeline Fleedwood. Most of the tale is now myth, but Emaline believes, enough to hire treasure hunter Gideon Trace to help her find them. Gideon is not so sure, but Emaline believes and believes he is some kind of hero, another thing Gideon does not believe, but if she does and it keeps her around, he is more than willing to let her live out her adventure. It is wonderfully funny JAK and a good read.

"The Adventurer" (book two of three following "The Pirate" and before "The Cowboy") is a witty, entertaining read. The entire trilogy is Krentz at her best (humorous dialogue, primal attraction between hero and heroine, etc.)If you're a Krentz fan, this series is a must have. Buy all three and read them in order.

This review is from: The Adventurer (Harlequin Temptation) (Paperback)
The heroine who falls in love with his letters, and searches out her man with determination to woo and win him is every man's fantasy. I re-read this book every few months. Do you suppose Jayne Ann Krentz knows how dramatically she can stir the masculine reader's passion?

I got this book from my mom, who reads romances ALL the time (like three a week) and then gives the good ones to me! I like Jane Ann Krentz because her characters are different from the usual people, and interesting. I think this is a reprint of an old book, and some of her newer ones are better, but Sarah is a really sweet character, and I liked her a lot. Recommended!!!

This is one of Jayne's fast moving story. You can't just put it down until you finish. It may be a bit far from real life, but that's romance. Don't you think?

JAK is such a good author that I couldn't stand Sarah Fleetwood but loved the story.Sarah, at 32 acts like a ditzy 20 year old. She has an age on her to be a bit more mature. To be lead by ones intuition is not bad but the attitude was a bit flakey. She confused Gideon Trace, a 40 year old alpha male who had an issue with trust, which Sarah's attitude did not inspire. I chuckled when I found out that I was right about "The Flowers" and who had them. But Sarah was on an adventure with Trace and wanted to thoroughly enjoy the hunt with this expert. She also intended to seduce him while gaining his trust. Oh Boy! I never saw two so at odds with each other. I am surprised that they stuck it out. Jake Savage was another character that helped confuse the issue. A light to read but enjoyable story once you learn how to deal with Sarah. Fairly neat trilogy! Will Recommend except for the weak reasons for seduction. Ah well!

Pure, Toe-curling Romance!,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Adventurer (Mass Market Paperback)
I love this book! The heroine is sweet and a little naive without being "too stupid to live" and the hero is one of those wonderful gruff, cynical heroes Krentz does so well. From the moment she put them together in the same room I started grinning and didn't stop until I finished the book. This book is one of my all-time favorite re-reads. It's JAK at her absolute best in category romance. It's a reprint of a Harelquin Temptation, not a full-length novel, and nobody did category better than Krentz. |
