5.0 out of 5 stars This is a Game Changer```` April 5, 2012
Color Name:Black| Size Name:One Size|Amazon Verified Purchase
Being an avid backpacker for years my biggest issues come from weight. I like to go ultralight due to back injuries I suffered in High School. The difference of 8 pounds can be the difference between a fun trip and one of incredible pain (and one I will feel for days)! My pack usually comes in under 20lbs and this includes tent, pack, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, food, stove, pillow, rain jacket, rain pants, a change of socks, tent footprint and some other odds and ins. This lacks water! In the past I've carried a 3liter water bladder and as you can imagine, that's a lot of weight. Each liter weighs 2.2lbs so a 3 liter bag is almost 7lbs of additional weight! For me that's too much.

Previously I would use tablets and drops to sterilize my water but not anymore! A friend of mine recommend this to me and it really has changed my entire system (backpacking). I'm able to carry the Steripen Adventurer UV and a quart water container and refill and sterilize as I go. Simply amazing! The differences between a quart of water and 3liters is HUGE!

So to the 'Pen.' It's amazing! Lightweight, quick to use and a very high quality product. I love the recharging ability of the solar container. I hook it to my pack and it charges as I go. You simply can't get any better than this or any smarter! I live in the mountains of NC so water is always close by so I don't have to worry about infrequent sources. This allows me to carry less, quickly sterilize and continue on.

One of the best purchases I have ever made!

UPDATE: I have nothing but great things to say about this device. It is absolutely amazing to say the least. I recently used it on a 2 day, 30 mile back packing adventure where I used it to filter roughly 4 liters of water from a drainage ditch!!! Strain it, purify, then drink. No issues what so ever! I have yet to use the charger other than the first time. Normally I leave it at home and take along an extra set of batteries to save on weight.

Size is bigger than expected. Use this in water filtered by charcoal/ceramic filter for double protection. No stomach ache and nothing. Water taste good from the tap and river.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product December 1, 2011
Color Name:Black| Size Name:One Size|Amazon Verified Purchase
After getting a rain water tank and wanting to make sure I was not drinking bacteria I found this product, and after using for the last 2 months or so, and still alive, I recommend it to any one, it is easy to use, small enough to take camping, and even charges your batteries via a solar panel. 10 out of 10

1.0 out of 5 stars Fragile, ineffective.
I took this device to the Himalayas and got diarrhea almost immediately.

After a week it rolled off a one foot high bench to a carpet in its case and never worked again.
