5.0 out of 5 stars I always watched it when I was a kid., December 28, 1998
By A Customer
I LOVE this movie. This was the movie I grew up on as a kid. I watched it at least 5 times a day and never grew tired of it. About the tale of the American Rabbit, the ultimate superhero. Characterized by blue and white starred ears and a red and white stripped body. An excellent kids movie. BUY IT.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Cartoon Ever!, July 23, 2004

I also watched this religiously when I was growing up. I had it permanently rented out from the video store. It was just last year that I hunted it down again. Since then I've watched it several times. There's something so clever about the whole thing. And there's all these obscure references to Nazism and Capitalism and I even think some of the characters probably represent historical figures. My 8 year old niece also really loved it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A true Classic ~ one I will always love, April 6, 2007
This review is from: The Adventures of the American Rabbit (DVD)
I first saw this film here in the UK in the mid 1980's, when I noticed it at the local rental shop. My dad made a copy for me, and I watched it for years. But one day, the tape gave out, and had to be thrown away.

But {finally!}, a copy is on it's way to me now, so I can re-live those happy memories, and be able to share them when I have kids.

The American Rabbit {as was the title over here}, is a wonderful tale for kids and adults alike. It shows that good will triumph over evil, that anyone can be a hero, and that the world isn't always the terrible place we all seem to think it is.

Rob shows that the most unlikely of heroes can save the day.

Buy this film, enjoy it, share it, and remember the days when childrens films had some morals and substance to them.

5.0 out of 5 stars When the bad guys were bad, and the good guys unflawed., November 1, 2004
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This movie aired the year after I was born. My parents recorded it on beta (remember that standard?), and it became my favorite movie two years later. Unlike many animes, the viewer will probably have little trouble establishing an emotional connection with the characters-- the reactions of the characters are not culture-specific, but rather universal.

While the storyline seems to have been written with the superhero-loving kid in mind, there are overtones only catchable by adults or near-adults. This causes it to still be a feel-good movie, but also a study in the attitudes of the time when it was released.

As the story of the rabbit Rob, who has come into a legacy which causes him to race into action against ill-willing villains as a striped and spangled super hero, this animated guy-joins-band-gets-gal classic harkens back to the movie era when bad guys were still bad, and heros had hearts of gold.

Great film for the kids.
I loved this movie as a kid, and now my kids are fans of the American Rabbit.
I couldn't find this in Australia on DVD or VHS, so I was happy to find it on DVD here.

4.0 out of 5 stars Kid Fav, October 5, 2010

This review is from: The Adventures of the American Rabbit (DVD)
What can I say, I remember this from my childhood. Now that I've got kids of my own, I had to get it. It was a blast from the past. My kids are both under 2, so its over their heads, but clean and cute. You don't have to worry about any off color humor or language. Just good family entertainment.

5.0 out of 5 stars He's the bravest Rabbit around!, June 12, 2006
He's the bravest, most endearing and longest eared super hero ever! He is inspired by those popular and whimsical American Rabbit Art prints, he's here to entertain your family with one hare raising escapade after another as he protects America from the forces of evil. In The Adventures of The American Rabbit you'll see how the legend began--from Robert Rabbit's humble hutch beginnings through his first smashing victories over the bad guys. It's enchanting, non-violent animation and an inspiring story about sportsmanship, friendlship and loyalty. Rated G. I wish I could add a photo of the tape to the product page but Amazon doesn't have a link for it. So all I could do is add a photo to my zShop listing. nearlymintcollectables
