5.0 out of 5 stars a seminal work for incognito

3.0 out of 5 stars Another Year, Another Album. . . did I miss something?
I read all the rave reviews of this album and I swore that I missed something. I have warmed to the album some after a few listens, and there may be more warming yet to do. Even so, I have to say that this album felt generic for me. I've got most, if not all of Incognito's albums and I've heard their sound evolve through different singers and different explorations,...

Oh how I love this group and their unmistakeable sound! I couldn't wait for the new release to come out. Browsing thru the CD rack @ Circuit City in Culver City, Ca, I was shocked to see that they had Adventures in Black Sunshine. So shocked, I screamed in the store! The folks in there looked at me like I was crazy, but if they only knew! It's tough to find Incognito's recordings in Southern Ca. Well needless to say, I love the cd! Hearing Maysa and Bluey together again is so wonderful. I loved the last album, "Who Needs Love", but I did miss that "Maysa" sound. This is REAL music indeed. Keep up the excellent work Bluey, and keep sending those powerful, meaningful messages in your music.

Adventures in Black Sunshine why isn't this group selling Millions? this is way better than most of the stuff the Record Companies are jammin' our airwaves with...Bluey & Maysa once again are doing their thing. 14 prime killer cuts no filler just good ol'70's style Jazz Funk R&B Music from one of the best group out today Incognito. "The 25th Chapter" and "Mindin' My Business" is mind blowin'"True to Myself" is beautiful. buy this cd if you love good music I bet you will not be disappointed.....

5.0 out of 5 stars Best in Ages!, October 7, 2004

While I thought "Who Needs Love" was a fantastic release, this one tops it by far and is the best Incognito album to come out since my previous favourite, "Beneath The Surface" -- Some amazing jams ("Mindin' My Business", and the JTQish "25th Chapter"), a couple of great vocal jams ("Don't Turn My Love Away" is a fantastic opener) and some great ballads (including the soulful "Autumn Song").

Don't pass this album up!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another fantastic release from Incognito, November 3, 2005

I always approach a new Incognito album with both excitement and hesitation. Being such a huge fan of this amazing, mainly British band (that were largely responsible for the explosion of the Acid Jazz scene in the UK along with "The Brand New Heavies"), I can't wait to get my hands on their newest material.

Over the years, I have however occasionally been disappointed with new releases. You see, I like my Incognito tracks a particular way - catchy riffs, mind-blowingly beautiful instrumentation, soulful vocals, occasionally danceable - all do it for me. Some of my favourite tracks of all time include "Nights Over Egypt" and "Wild and Peaceful" (from No Time Like the Future), "Stay Mine", "Worlds Collide", "There Will Come A Day" and "Castles In The Air" (from Life, Stranger Than Fiction), "One Hundred And Rising", "Too Far Gone", "After The Fall", "I Hear Your Name" and "Barumba" (from 100 and Rising) and "Living Against The River" (from Beneath The Surface - one of their best all-round albums to date in my opinion).

I don't like a lot of the material on Incognito's earlier albums, but thankfully, since their 1999 release "No Time Like The Future", Incognito has delivered a string of exceptional albums. "Adventures in Black Sunshine" is another album I will be listening to over and over again.

From the moment I heard the opening piano chords of "Don't Turn My Love Away", I knew I was going to be in for a treat.

This album has something for every type of Incognito fan: that great full and rounded Incognito sound on "Don't Turn My Love Away" and "Everything Your Heart Desires", beautiful vocal layers on "The Principals Of Love", a simple keyboard and vocal track in "This Thing Called Love", a couple of 'harder' tracks in "The 25th Chapter" and "Mindin' My Business", the ethereal quality of "Fences and Barriers", the simplicity and harmonies of "Autumn Song". For those that like to have a good dance to Incognito tracks, you won't be disappointed with a choice from "Listen To The Music", "The World Is Mine" and "Beyond The Clouds". My own personal favourite track on this album is "The World Is Mine".

Maysa fans will be delighted to hear that she plays a huge part in this album. As always, her vocals are stunning (although being an audio engineer myself, I can hear some sloppy 'Auto-Tuning' in some tracks - come on, this lady certainly does NOT need any assistance from this plug-in, Bluey!).

All in all, a very good release. I can't recommend this album enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars You don't need a sample, just buy it!, August 21, 2004
The music is outstanding with small intonations of guitars, percussion, just magnificent. Indeed, Maysa is back and doing her thing as usual. Bluey has reached back as far as the days of the Doobie Brothers, which Maysa did a wonderful rendition of "Listen To The Music". It sounds better than the original, although the original will always be a classic. All of the tracks are great. It's exremely hard to determine which track is the best. Don't worry about listening to the samples, don't get caught up on debating whether you should buy it or not. Take the risk, you will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incognito, "Adventures in Black Sunshine", August 19, 2004
Although I still listen to Incognito's last album, "Who Needs Love", something was missing. That something was Maysa Leak, who returns for half of this album's tracks. She really shines on 'Don't Turn My Love Away', 'Fences and Barriers' and 'Listen to the Music'. On this song, Incognito does the same thing they did for Stevie Wonder's 'Don't You Worry 'Bout a Thing' and turn this Doobie Brothers classic into a house masterpiece. Bluey still does his thing as well. Another classic for this group who has been doing it since 1981.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent CD!, January 25, 2005

I had never even heard of this group until my husband ordered it from one of those CD clubs. I put it on, and within the first 30 seconds, I LOVED this CD - no exagerration! It is upbeat, jazzy, funky... I haven't stopped listening to it. It's a shame you can't hear music like this on the radio, but then again, it makes you feel privileged having been lucky enough to have discovered it. I highly recommend this CD.
