Great comic strips don't always become famous. For every "Pogo" or "Peanuts" that catches on and goes big, there's a "Buck O'Rue" that remains a best-kept secret--and, despite its creativity and high quality, runs for only a couple of years before blinking out.

"Buck O'Rue" (1951-52), the craziest cowboy comic ever, is set in Mesa Trubil: a Western town so wild that when it seceded from the Union in the Civil War, the North wiped its hands and never took it back! Dauntless hero "Buckie" matches wits--and half-wits--with tyrant mayor Trigger Mortis, double-agent Two-Faced Tessie, and corrupt Judge Sludge. They aren't the most competent crooks ever; but as one mustached badman says to another, "you ain't no male Annie Oakley yourself." The bullets fly, and the thrills and laughs never stop!

Written by animation legend Dick Huemer, and drawn by ace Disney artist Paul Murry ("Mickey Mouse") at the peak of his powers, "Buck O'Rue" is a genuine lost classic--and it's been found in fine form, remastered from line art stats kept by the Huemer family. More than thirty pages of bonus features outline the strip's origins, history, and talent (no comics aficionado should die before seeing Murry's pin-up art).

One "Buck" story chronicles "Oaf Monday," the one day each year when Buck O'Rue loses his strength and cowboy skill. It is then that prospector and mad scientist Adam Schmatum tries to "bust th' world right in half" with his Schmatum Bomb. Rumor has it Oaf Monday is coming up again soon. You'd better buy this book first.
