Book Description

Using irony, satire, and humor, Jeremy Myers writes Adventures in Fishing (for Men) as an allegorical story about a man’s quest to become a successful and world-famous fisherman—without ever catching any fish.

As an allegory about evangelism, the book is not about fishing, but about fishing for men. Most of the allegorical stories are from the author’s own life, and as such, this book is an autobiographical confession about his own failures in evangelism. But his experiences are not isolated, and many of the stories he recounts will resonate with others within the church.

Adventures in Fishing (for Men) pokes fun at some of the popular evangelistic techniques and strategies endorsed and practiced by many Christians in today’s churches. The stories in this book show in humorous detail how little we understand the culture that surrounds us or how to properly reach people with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The story also shows how much time, energy, and money goes into evangelism preparation and training with the end result being that churches rarely accomplish any actual evangelism.

Editorial Reviews

"Adventures in Fishing (for Men) teaches with a parable that will challenge you to change your thinking, get out of your box, and actually become the 'fisher of men' that Jesus has called you to become." -Vince Antonucci, Author of Renegade

From the Author

I began writing this book by trying to show some of the failures of modern evangelism through satire and irony. I ended up mocking myself and my own failures in this area as well. You know what they say, "When you point the finger at someone else, three fingers point back at you." That is what happened as I wrote this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not for the comically-challenged... December 28, 2012

I found Adventures In Fishing For Men quite funny! Jeremy Myers does a great job shining the light on some of the more common practices in Evangelism today. His allegory gently points to the foolishness that is found within a system that takes the preaching of the Gospel and tries to reduce it to a simplified formula. A formula that takes what should be an organic, Spirit led experience and turns it into a gospel that is nutritionally benign.
If you have ever EE'd someone you may find Meyer's book offensive, but if you have come to the place where you realize that Evangelism isn't a matter of a script and checklists, then you might benefit from this light-hearted peek at Evangelism today.
