Phoenix, New Frontier & Psychocrypt - oh my! :),
By
This review is from: Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers - Phoenix (DVD)
Hooray!!
More GR eps restored and on DVD! When I saw that the ep Psychocrypt was going to be on this volume, I was jumping for joy. Psychocrypt, one of the more pivotal episodes of the series, was never released on commercial VHS. (Let me tell you - this was one of *the* most sought after eps for the fan trading - everyone wanted to know who had this ep and did they have *hopefully* a clean copy in stereo?) It goes to show how strongly Zach loves his wife and how the Queen of the Crown played on that love with Eliza's crystal. You also see how much of a true b*$%# the Queen of the Crown is. Very well written ep and definitely not your aveage kiddy show!! Rainmaker - good story, more hints about how Goose gets really mad when Niko gets hurt. *g* (Yes, I'm an admitted G/N'er! :-p), and wow.... the trick Niko pulls out of her hat in order to save Sheriff Ladd's daughter, Amy.... (Oh yes, much homage in the name, Sheriff Ladd there.... :-p) I don't remember - is this the first time the team had pulled their talents together for something like that? That is one of the things that has always impressed me over the years about GR - they didn't really have your typical "Kids don't remember story lines..." writing, and the characters were really believable. I gotta hand it to Sir Robert - he knew what he was doing when he assembled the writing staff! Thanks to Christopher Rowley, Brian Dayley, and Dan Fiorella (just to name the few that pop up right off hand!) for making this show stand the test of time. I can't wait for the next two volumes to be released!

Why does this deserve a five? It hasn't aged well at all. The animation is clunky, the voice "acting" is questionable and many of the plot lines are hokey. But it is sensational. Why? The characters are easy to adore and get behind, the music is awesome and the whole premise is enthralling. This disc contains the pilot and first episode of the series. The theme song plays over the extended "launch" scene where the rangers enter the elevator, activate or recharge their powers, board the tram and finally launch their space craft. A great lead in that is eventually shortened in later episodes (think Voltron, G-Force, Power Rangers, etc launch sequences). Rainmaker has a bit of a hokey plot in the midst of the futuristic science fiction in the rest of the series, but it is light hearted and fun and contains an original song that is very catchy. I wish they would make a live action movie of this.

this 1980 animated series was one of the best I've seen in a long time, it has very good animation and great stories it keeps the plot moving. the only thing that always buged me about this series is who or whomever put this together even when it was on the air, is that it's not in order.
It don't start when they meet these aleins but you see that part later on in the series. With the DVD's I know they can put more than four stoies per disk. I think there tiring to milk more cash out of you.

Great 80's cartoon,
This review is from: Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers - Phoenix (DVD)
I've always loved the Galaxy Rangers, its one of my most favorite cartoons of this decade. This dvd has four episodes, Phoenix, New Frontier, Psychocrypt and Rainmaker. This dvd is great for all its cowboy space adventures. If you are a fan of great action cartoons, this is one of the best.

What to say? It's the Galaxy Rangers!! A true blast from the past!! The DVD quality is excellant and the packaging art work is very nice with each volume dedicated to one of the rangers on the front cover. The extras are typical of an 80s animated cartoon, but the sound and video are excellant. The only negative thing I have to say about the set is they are not presented with the episodes numbered. It's up to you to find the correct order. But that is only minor compared to the reliving of a childhood memory. Two thumbs way up!!

This is one of the best cartoons made in its day. The music was effective, great stories and characters. There is a lot of detail, just not in the animation.
