Book Description

7 and up2 and up
There I stood, hiding next to the vending machines, disguised as a potted plant. I brushed the plastic leaves from my face and stared down the hallway toward the front double doors. Snow Cone always said one day this ridiculous costume would come in handy. Fifteen minutes had passed since the last student left for the buses, but I wasn t about to take any chances. Not with my life hanging in the balance. Leaning forward, I peered around the corner just as the sound of footsteps echoed down the hallway. Was this it? Could this be him? Was I about to be pulverized by Hambone while wearing an emergency disguise I had just pulled from my locker? Hashbrown Winters and his treehouse club of buddies are well known around Pordunce Elementary, especially after Hashbrown s seminar last year on how to give the best show and tell performances... er, presentations. But when Hashbrown accidentally crosses Hambone Oxcart, the death dealer of Pordunce, he ll need more than just the support of his friends to survive Hambone s wrath. Join Hashbrown, Snow Cone, Whiz, and the rest of the gang in Frank Cole s hilarious debut novel of the trials and tragedies of fifth grade life. The Adventures of Hashbrown Winters will keep kids and parents alike laughing out loud, groaning in sympathy, and turning pages until well past bedtime.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Frank is a wizard; he s a fantastic storyteller who can turn the ordinary into gold and make me thrilled to read about every second of it. This is a great book. Sure it s got page numbers and chapters, and those things are cool, but most important it has one great story read it. --Obert Skye, author of Leven Thumps

An excellent book. You ll be laughing a lot as you sit on the edge of your seat. Highly recommended. --James Dashner, author of The 13th Reality

About the Author

Frank L. Cole was born in a quiet town in Kentucky where he spent most of his childhood sharing exaggerated stories for show and tell. He now lives in Utah with his wife and three children. One of Frank s greatest claims to fame was when he was rushed to the emergency room as a third-grader after falling out of Hashbrown Winter s tree house. If he had a nickname it would be Frankie the Phantom . The Adventures of Hashbrown Winters is Frank s debut novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, August 14, 2009
This review is from: The Adventures of Hashbrown Winters (Paperback)
I loved this book so much, it was an easy read but had me laughing the whole way through. Hashbrown has a problem with the school bully and has to go to the 6th grade Mafia for protection. I bought this book because I met the author and he had my friend and I laughing so hard as he described the book I knew it would be funny. This book is perfect for kids in 3rd-6th grade, or for those of us how have not grown up yet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hashbrown Winters, July 23, 2009

"The Adventures of Hashbrown Winters" was a very enjoyable, kid-friendly book in my opinion. Reminiscent of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, Hashbrown Winters was a hilarious book about the trials and tribulations of a fifth grade boy. Packed with funny nicknames and laugh-out-loud sequences, this book was great while staying within the realms of reality about fifth grade life. The realistic situation that Hashbrown is in and the whimsical means he uses to get rid of his problem will make you laugh, smile, and smirk while you follow Hashbrown and his funnily-named friends on his mission to "save his life" and survive fifth grade.

If you're looking for a deep, down-to-earth middle grade book--one that teaches children about the real world--then stop, turn around, and run. Stay as far away from the book HASHBROWN WINTERS by Frank Cole as you can.

However, if you'd enjoy a fun-filled afternoon full of laughter, then get to know Hashbrown, a fifth grader at Pordunce Elementary who signs his own death warrant after accidentally injuring Hambone Oxcart's enormous pet cockroach.

Well done!
