Great book,
This review is from: The Adventures of Hashbrown Winters (Paperback)
I loved this book so much, it was an easy read but had me laughing the whole way through. Hashbrown has a problem with the school bully and has to go to the 6th grade Mafia for protection. I bought this book because I met the author and he had my friend and I laughing so hard as he described the book I knew it would be funny. This book is perfect for kids in 3rd-6th grade, or for those of us how have not grown up yet.

Hashbrown Winters,

This review is from: The Adventures of Hashbrown Winters (Paperback)
"The Adventures of Hashbrown Winters" was a very enjoyable, kid-friendly book in my opinion. Reminiscent of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, Hashbrown Winters was a hilarious book about the trials and tribulations of a fifth grade boy. Packed with funny nicknames and laugh-out-loud sequences, this book was great while staying within the realms of reality about fifth grade life. The realistic situation that Hashbrown is in and the whimsical means he uses to get rid of his problem will make you laugh, smile, and smirk while you follow Hashbrown and his funnily-named friends on his mission to "save his life" and survive fifth grade.

If you're looking for a deep, down-to-earth middle grade book--one that teaches children about the real world--then stop, turn around, and run. Stay as far away from the book HASHBROWN WINTERS by Frank Cole as you can.
However, if you'd enjoy a fun-filled afternoon full of laughter, then get to know Hashbrown, a fifth grader at Pordunce Elementary who signs his own death warrant after accidentally injuring Hambone Oxcart's enormous pet cockroach. Well done!

Hashbrown is a Tasty Treat,

I had no idea what to expect from this one when I picked it up, only that the cover brought me back to those Saturdays of my youth watching cartoons. The book follows the exploits of "Hashbrown" and his fellow elementary school pals who all have descriptive nicknames. I found myself chuckling and smiling at the zany situations they found themselves in and was impressed with the author's imaginative flair. In which other book does the character seek help from the elementary school mafia boss, or seek advice from a person trapped in a locker for seven years?
It is a quick, fun read rife with fifth-grade style humour, and I would recommend it. It looks like it is turning into a series. The second book is already out and I hear the author is making headway on a third book. I only hope someday that we get the zany cartoon version that my kids could watch on Saturday morning.

Cole has set up a story about a bunch of elementary schoolers who all have nicknames for one reason or another. It's a vibrant tale about bullies and babes, crises and clubhouses, and above all, adventure. Hashbrown Winters is a kid who crosses paths with the school bully and ends up on a hit list. He'll try everything to save his own skin, including trading his prized marble to the school mafia for their protection.
The story takes place in a suspended reality, making it feel like it really comes from an elementary schooler's perspective. There's no "Oh, well I imagined it this way," or "In reality this is what happened..." No. Cockroaches talk, kids stay trapped in lockers for years, and the Italian kids take over the teachers' lounge and run a casino out of it. It's a quick, fun read. If there are more, I'll probably read them.

Such a fun, laugh out loud story, the whole family enjoyed it. This adventure is amusing with great teaching moments of loyalty and friendship. Great for upper elementary age who can relate to the highs and lows of the life of a fifth grader. Really enjoyed this entertaining book.

Awesome book!,
This review is from: The Adventures of Hashbrown Winters (Paperback)
This was a great book which I enjoyed immensely. The cover drew me in immediately. Frank is a great story teller, and keeps the reader guessing as to how the "cockroach conflict" is going to be resolved. Besides Hashbrown, my favorite character is the Oracle. I keep wondering how he moves around behind and underneath the lockers. Makes me want to go to that school and put his skills to the test. A must read for every grade school child, or adult who thrives on child novels!
