5.0 out of 5 stars Very literate and easily understood, April 30, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Pioneer Life; Or, Thirty Years a Hunter. Being Scenes and Adventures in the Life of Philip Tome, Fifteen Years Interpreter for Cornplanter and Gov. Blacksnake, Chiefs on the Allegany River (Hardcover)
Despite when this was written, Mr. Tome was evidently so literate that it is easy to understand even today. He paints a fascinating picture of what life was like in Pennsylvania in the late 1700's and early 1800's

As a relative I may be a bit biased, but I am also a historian. This book is wonderful. It is not only a pleasure to read, but is full of amazing stories and information. The copy of the book that I have was obtained through my local historical society when my mother was doing some geneological research on Philip. It has meant the world to us as a family to be able to have that connection to our past through reading this book as well. It is a wonderful picture of pioneer life and the hardships that people faced.
