ADDICTED TO ADVENTURES...,
By Joe Mas "Joe" (Coxsackie, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Adventures of Jodelle (Audio CD)
This is a superior album with all the inner workings of lyrical genius. Divine blends of darkness and light, sewing the music together like a delicate homegrown quilt. It has been a long time since albums included the sensitivity of songs like "Particle" & "Parachute", and yet the utter fire of "Rabbit Cage" all on one cd. It truly is an "adventure" from heaven to hell remaining in your head hours and even days after your first visit.
"The moon is a coward to hide from the sun..." she sings in "Damage Done" exploring the range of humanistic loss and desire through what can not be found. "She's a magazine bombshell." in "Stick Figure" detailing the misconception of what women define as the ideal female. Never has an album release resonated such texture or substance, since the names Joni Mitchell or Laura Nyro have been uttered. Recent releases from artists such, as Jonatha Brooke and Sarah McLachlan have not only been flat and cliché, but down right "sleepy". These artists should take a lesson from this yet-un-discovered star: that a blend of reinvention and unique sensibilities produce an enormously emotional piece of art. "The Adventures of Jodelle" is the album that artists should use as the template to their upcoming release. Erasing the normal and ordinary, and walking the path with the likes of Tori Amos, Ani DiFranco, Fiona Apple, and Bjork towards obscure and thought-provoking. Produced beautifully, and designed with a flawless layout of photos depicting Jodelle as the famous French comic book heroine of yester-year making the entire project a true work of art. If you don't become completely addicted to this cd, like I have, consider yourself left behind from the adventure! PS: If you cannot hear the album clips here, simply go to www.jodelle.net, to sample the mp3s.

Bridging the gap between Kate Bush and the new generation,
By
This review is from: The Adventures of Jodelle (Audio CD)
I don't think even Tori Amos has been so able to bridge the musical gap that was left behind after Kate Bush passed her musical peak back in the early nineties. In a way, Tori and Paula Cole had been as close as it gets to the quality of work that Kate delivered. Enter Jodelle in 2004.
After an EP released back in 2002, New Jersey-based Jodelle broke her silence with this "Adventures" album in November 2004. Almost every song in the album reminds me of Kate Bush, except for "Rabbit Cage" where she comes accross more like Evanescence with Amy Lee-like singing and guitar riffs that do not seem part of the same album. My favorites, hands down: "All Save One" and "Parachute". Overall, this is one solid album that I am happy to recommend. Full disclaimer: Review was written after listening to a copy of the album I received from the artist. But don't trust me, if you doubt my words. Go to her web site (http://www.jodelle.net) and try out the sample tracks she offers. I think you will agree.

Stunning Debut,
By A Long Time Fan (New Jersey) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Adventures of Jodelle (Audio CD)
Attention music/program directors! Looking for something new and different - check out Jodelle! These songs should be on the radio!
I can't say this about most of the CD's I've bought recently by "established" artists, but I CAN say this about "The Adventures of Jodelle": Every song on the album is a WINNER.
