5.0 out of 5 stars Great comic strips, a light and amusing read, May 11, 2008
This review is from: The Adventures of a Joe Boy! Vol. 1 (Paperback)
I'm already a fan of Joe's art from his other books (Cali Boys, Boys will be Boys) and only stumbled over this book recently. I was thrilled to finally get my hands on some of his comic strips and I wasn't disappointed. This book features eleven full color short stories and they're all a fun and amusing read. And as always I enjoyed his work and looking at his characters very much. I would truly have loved this book to be longer, but it's nonetheless worth it's price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Light-hearted entertainment, May 1, 2008
This review is from: The Adventures of a Joe Boy! Vol. 1 (Paperback)
Another entry from the prolific Joe Phillips. Unlike his usual portraits, this book collects his serial art as published in XY Magazine. Aimed at the younger queer generation (i.e. Generation X and Generation Y), the stories are fluffy, brief and amusing. Populated with his usual bevy of fresh-faced twinks, this is an amusing afternoon's reading, and should not be taken at all seriously.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lots of fun., August 15, 2007
This review is from: The Adventures of a Joe Boy! Vol. 1 (Paperback)
1. So, the situations, plots, and characters are a bit juvenile (they were originally conceived for XY magazine which is, ostensibly, aimed at young readers). Each story is self-contained, and only about 4 or 5 pages long.

2. There are typos and grammatical errors that will make your eyes hurt.

3. This is not erotica. More like an Archie and Jughead for the queers.

All of that being said, I truly enjoyed this book, and am definitely pleased that I bought it. The whole thing is published in color, and the boys are fun to look at (it's rare to find both of those in a realist gay comic book).

I wish it were ten times as long.
