If You Buy One Book Today, Make It This One...., June 23, 2011
This review is from: Adventures of Cash Laramie and Gideon Miles (Kindle Edition)
With ADVENTURES OF CASH LARAMIE AND GIDEON MILES, Edward A. Grainger has given fans of traditional Westerns something new and exciting to sink their choppers into. Not a fan of Westerns? Been a while since you've tucked into one? Prefer crime stories? No worries, these stories are as much crime, action, and adventure tale as they are Western. But all that genre affiliation aside, these are damn fine stories.
It would be an easy thing to go on and on about the tightly crafted plots, the characters so well rendered they feel as if they're speaking to you and pulling you into their adventures with them, the satisfying feeling of finishing one of these stories--and then finding there's another one to go, the disappointment at coming to the end of the book (though I've been told there are more such adventures to come)....
But what really should be said is that Edward A. Grainger (aka David Cranmer) is one of the most important writers of the new pulp movement, and these stories are very much worth your time. And for a buck? Egads, don't tell me you're still reading this review! Click "Buy Now," sink spur, and hang on....

An amazing collection at any price!, June 10, 2011
This review is from: Adventures of Cash Laramie and Gideon Miles (Kindle Edition)
I confess, until I read Grainger's Cash and Miles stories, I always thought of Westerns as dusty, dated affairs. But Grainger proved me wrong. His blend of Westerns and crime fiction is pitch-perfect, bringing out the best in both genres. His take on the prejudices of his characters' time is both modern and nuanced, commenting beautifully on both their peers' biases as well as those our culture still carries today. And lordy, are these stories thrilling.
This collection is a steal at any price, and what Grainger's charging here, you'll feel like you just got away with something buying it. Just hope they don't send ol' Laramie after you; he don't take kindly to thievin'...

Miles Of Cash Before I Sleep, July 5, 2011
This review is from: Adventures of Cash Laramie and Gideon Miles (Kindle Edition)
If you took a razor blade and ran it down a wet canvas half dripping with black ink, then smeared it into the white area, you'd get a good replica of the characters Edward Grainger draws out in Cash & Miles. The backdrop is late 1800's. Times are harsh. A shot of whiskey doesn't go far. Cash is the harbinger of the law, but he bears much more than this, he bears a conscience that is often at disagreement with the law. It's this inner battle that carries the reader eagerly through the stories and wanting more. Miles holds my favorite shoot out scene in "Miles To Go." He's full of spunk, grit and is a sort of cornerstone to the series. There's a bit of everything for everyone in the book: gunfights, love, humor, horror, friendship and grit. One of my favorite reads for this year. I highly recommend, especially for those who are fans of Stephen King's Dark Tower books.
