Hilarious, twisted, brilliant. This book has a great streak of bawdy black humour. It is very cleverly written, fun and fast paced. The Adventures of Lord Iffy Boatrace has a very irreverend view of the english aristocracy and upperclass twits everywhere. This book shows the incredible wit of Bruce Dickinson, the frontman of Iron Maiden. It is a must have for any Iron Maiden fan and any fan of the particular brand of black humour only the english can do.

The Adventures Of Lord Iffy Boatrace is a fine comic satire in the long history of English comic satires. This is a work Tom Sharpe would be proud to have written.
Often comedic works are plodding and/or predictable. Having been a fan of Iron Maiden since I was 16 I fancied my chances in the prediction stakes. This is neither plodding nor predictable. The dramatis personae ensures a lively mix and there's at least one type of person there we all know. The "short, fat, feminist and dangerous" Margot Smith was the embodiment of somebody I know. Bruce knows a thing or two about trains. This is obvious in the early chapters and it's nice to see such knowledge put to good use. The train scene with Laetitia P Taylor is one I will never forget. It's fair to say that Bruce knows a lot about a lot of things. This helps the plot and the prose zoom along at a cracking pace. There aren't many books in my library which are so loved and laughed over. This is one of those books. One of the funniest books I have ever read.

Well, I knew that there was no way that Bruce Dickinson would write a mediocre and forgettable book. Instead, Dickinson has accomplished something very few people have ever achieved: The Adventures of Lord Iffy Boatrace is so terrible that it's outstanding. Quite possibly the most awesomely bad piece of British lit, ever.
Forget a comprehensible plot. Forget any semblence of character developement. Heck, he even writes the narrative in British colloquialism (so if you're American, you may have no idea what's going on in the 100 pages or so of this fantastically terrible novel). Yes, the book is HILARIOUS, but that's just because it's so awful. He even plugs his own band and mascot in the book. Who does that in a work of fiction?! If he were in a fiction workshop, he would have been laughed out of the classroom. Really, I can't wait to read the sequel.
