The mini goddess series takes a new, interesting turn.,

This review is from: The Adventures of Mini-Goddess - The Urd Files (Vol. 3) (DVD)
Those who've seen the first two mini goddess DVDs will enjoy this, however you'll notice a few changes. During the opening narration that begins each episode, the narration is the same, but what goes on is different. Through out this 20 second scene we see them posing in front of a camera in different outfits, including bathing suits (and Urd in lingerie). The end credit sequence is also different. The first four episodes have their own unique credit scens, and from episode five and on we come to a new end video with a new song, where we see the goddess doing different activities like playing cards and board games with pieces that look just like them. And, finally, the episodes themselves are different. Part four is a mood piece completely free of dialoge and humor, with somber music, where Urd spends a rainy traveling to different parts of Tokyo, and then back home where she finds her younger sisters waiting with Gan. Those who are impatiant for laughs will want to fast forward through this one. The biggest change is the introduction of Marla, a sorcoress with a first class licence and no restrictions. Sometimes backed up by a gang of rat thugs, she acts as the villan here, her goal to make the three goddess' lives a living hell. She does often become the sorce of comedy relief herself, though, and I think she makes the series much more interesting. This I reccomend.

MiniGoddess is generally entertaining in a mindless fashion but nothing memorable. However, episode 28 - 'Rainy Day' - is a beautiful wordless meditation, a mini-Odyssey through urban Japan filled with touching images set to a lovely cello-themed background. Inconceivable that this would have been made in the US, save perhaps by Pixar. Worth the DVD.

The adventures of Mini Goddess has got to be the cutest piece of anime out. Basically, the episodes are approx. 5 minutes each allowing our cute little Goddesses to go on all kinds of adventures. The Urd files is the 3rd DVD in the series and contains episodes 25-36. A Better description of this wonderful anime show would probably be it's like the Muppet Babies only 1000 times better. So do yourself a favor and purchase all three, currently available, DVD's of this fantastically cute Anime series. You won't regret it:) You can also be like me and pace back & forth, while waiting patiently for the release of The Adventures of Mini Goddess-The Skuld Files:)

This volume of Mini Goddess is named by Urd, the eldest sister of the three goddesses. This is the volume 3 for the Mini Goddess series. The volume 2 is Beldandy files and volume 4 is Sculd files. That sequence is actually the sequence of goddesses appeared into the original Ah! My Goddess series where the second sister Beldandy appeared first to Morisato Keichi's life followed by the eldest sis Urd and next by the youngest kid Sculd. So, this Mini Goddess series volume titles truly follow the original sequence of goddesses. Among all 4 Mini Goddess volumes, this one the Urd file is the one that I like the most along with the second volume the Beldandy files. This volume is very comical and entertaining. In one episode, Sculd made a dream visualizer that shows sleeping person's dream on the TV screen. When Urd and Sculd put the machine on sleeping Gan, the house rat who loves sweet Beldandy, they make Gan to dream a funny daydream where Beldandy comes to him and surprisingly confesses her dearest love to Gan. When Gan got awaken, two sisters and the rat tried the machine to sleeping Beldandy, wondering what kind of dream Beldandy herself might have. Another fun factor of this volume is goddesses' fated nemesis Marla, the first class unlimited licence sorcerer, whose goal is making goddesses suffer. I want to mention that the class and limitation system of the licenses for goddess here and why it's funny. In Japan, the derivers' license is categorized just like the goddess license. Beldandy has the first class unlimited license (i-gg-shin gan-di hi-gen-te) and Urd has second class limited license (ni-gg-shin gan-di gen-te)because she got punished for telling lies, which is very crucial crime for a goddess, of course. So, when Marla introduced herself as the first class unlimited licensed sorcerer, it makes me crack quite a bit. Marla supposes to be destructive and causing pains for goddesses, but you know, this is basically comic genre, so that all of Marla's sweating against goddess sisters end up being funny useless attempts. One plus factor of this DVD is that you can also enjoy two ending songs. I forgot the titles of those songs, but one is used in first two volumes and the other is used in the last volumes including this one. And, as I mentioned, one of episode in this DVD used the first ending song. Other episodes in this DVD have the second ending song. They are quite different in their styles. The second one is more cute and sparkling and the first one is more balladic. Lastly, as others already mentioned below, the vision of this series is just irresistibly cute and pretty with great colorfulness. So, if you like the original series of Ah! My Goddess, this parody series will be a great treat for you. If you did not watch the original version, but still, this series has lots of things to enjoy.

I liked this DVD. The Skuld Detective episode was particularly funny, but after watching the "Oh My Goddess!" OAVs, it seemed funky to me from then on. If you're looking for a deep story and plot; don't bother even reading on, but if you like occassional laugh and is a fan of Belldandy, Urd, and Skuld, then why are you still reading this!?
