While searching for a curriculum which is based on the educational philosophy of British educator, Charlotte Mason I accidentially stumbled across My Father's World Adventures.
My Father's World Adventures curriculum is structured to introduce children in the second or third grade to American History. The unit study which is 36 weeks long is divided up into the following subjects: Bible, U.S. History/Geography, Science, Art, Music. During the year your child will learn about Leif Erickson through the settling of the west. Also included is a trip around the USA with a visit to each of the 50 states. Primary Language Lessons by Emma Serl is recommended for language arts and Singapore Math is recommended for math.
The pros of this curriculum are:
1. The teacher's manual is written clearly/concisely so you know what you are suppose to be doing each day of school
2. MFW would work well with children of all learning styles, kinesthetic, tactile, auditory, visual and for children who have learning disabilities.
3. The MFW Message Board and Yahoo Group offers support to parents utilizing the curriculum. The groups are well moderated with no flaming allowed.
The cons of this curriculum are:
1.MFW's primary teaching focus is "apologetics" from the fundamentalist mindset.
2.MFW is advertised as a "Charlotte Mason" but in reality it is made up of three types of educational philosophy: Classical, unit study and Charlotte Mason.
I would highly recommend purchasing "For the Children's Sake" by Susan Schaeffer Maculay (which MFW sells) to gain a better understanding of the Charlotte Mason method/philosophy before beginning MFW.

Used My Father's World for Kindergarten and First Grade. I like the sound Biblical teachings this curriculum provides. No, the early editions are not fancy or colorful, however, the author is very skillful in presrnting the course of study and material. My child loves it. I am an active participant as a teacher in that not everything is laid out fot me. I do research. Love, my father' world.
