I Love Pete and Pete, October 8, 2000
This review is from: Adventures of Pete & Pete - Classic Petes [VHS] (VHS Tape)
What we need is a Pete and Pete boxed set. ALL the episodes. ALL the fun. I don't have cable, but I miss this show more than any other. Probably because I wouldn't be able to see it even if I did have cable. I miss Pete and Pete. I'm going to Nickelodeon.com next to demand that they re-release the "pete tapes." I suggest that you all follow me!

Captain Scrummy Rules!, September 1, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Adventures of Pete & Pete - Classic Petes [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I have this video. I bought it about five years ago (through Avon, no less) for my older son who's now 11. I agree that Pete & Pete is probably the best show Nick's ever done, and some of the best comedy on TV in the past 10 years. The Petes live in a slightly off-kilter universe, with over-the-top characters at every turn: Micheal Stipe as Captain Scrummy, Martin Donovan as the crossing guard, Steve Buscemi as Mr. Hickle, Chris Elliott as the meter reader, Bebe Neuwirth as the vixenish mail lady. And of course, Artie, the Strongest Man in the World. Nothing is absurd in Pete & Pete, not digging up a '78 Cutlass Supreme at the beach and driving it home, not spotting the Tasteemobile hundreds of miles away from the top of a tower while chasing the queen killer bee ("Back to the Yucatan for you, stinky!"), nor a high school wrestler getting sucked into the washroom hand dryer at the hands of Endless Mike, who wants to cream big Pete on the wrestling mat. I don't remember the plots as much as I remember characters -- Wayne the Pain, Teddy, Endless Mike, Artie, Nona, Mr. Slurm, Prinical Schwinger (Who can forget Adam West, as Principal Schinger, getting blasted by about 55 gallons of creamed corn shooting out of a giant ear during a full-school hygiene assembly? Yuk!) The show was truly a Leave It to Beaver for our absurdist times.

Why so few?, December 14, 1999
This review is from: Adventures of Pete & Pete - Classic Petes [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I've enjoyed pete and pete and artie and ellen for years. So few shows on television have humor, thought and style. Why don't they release more videos? Do they not want our money? I have Classic Petes and Farewell, My Little Viking and they shine with surreal light and great storytelling. I hear there's a third video somewhere. There should be more, many more.
