5.0 out of 5 stars I Love Pete and Pete, October 8, 2000

What we need is a Pete and Pete boxed set. ALL the episodes. ALL the fun. I don't have cable, but I miss this show more than any other. Probably because I wouldn't be able to see it even if I did have cable. I miss Pete and Pete. I'm going to Nickelodeon.com next to demand that they re-release the "pete tapes." I suggest that you all follow me!

5.0 out of 5 stars Captain Scrummy Rules!, September 1, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Adventures of Pete & Pete - Classic Petes [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I have this video. I bought it about five years ago (through Avon, no less) for my older son who's now 11. I agree that Pete & Pete is probably the best show Nick's ever done, and some of the best comedy on TV in the past 10 years. The Petes live in a slightly off-kilter universe, with over-the-top characters at every turn: Micheal Stipe as Captain Scrummy, Martin Donovan as the crossing guard, Steve Buscemi as Mr. Hickle, Chris Elliott as the meter reader, Bebe Neuwirth as the vixenish mail lady. And of course, Artie, the Strongest Man in the World. Nothing is absurd in Pete & Pete, not digging up a '78 Cutlass Supreme at the beach and driving it home, not spotting the Tasteemobile hundreds of miles away from the top of a tower while chasing the queen killer bee ("Back to the Yucatan for you, stinky!"), nor a high school wrestler getting sucked into the washroom hand dryer at the hands of Endless Mike, who wants to cream big Pete on the wrestling mat. I don't remember the plots as much as I remember characters -- Wayne the Pain, Teddy, Endless Mike, Artie, Nona, Mr. Slurm, Prinical Schwinger (Who can forget Adam West, as Principal Schinger, getting blasted by about 55 gallons of creamed corn shooting out of a giant ear during a full-school hygiene assembly? Yuk!) The show was truly a Leave It to Beaver for our absurdist times.

5.0 out of 5 stars Why so few?, December 14, 1999

I've enjoyed pete and pete and artie and ellen for years. So few shows on television have humor, thought and style. Why don't they release more videos? Do they not want our money? I have Classic Petes and Farewell, My Little Viking and they shine with surreal light and great storytelling. I hear there's a third video somewhere. There should be more, many more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Demand the release of more Pete & Pete videos, February 19, 2000

This wonderful show is great for all ages. Well rounded plots with quirky dark comedy. Why is no one producing these videos for sale? I would gladly pay $25 for a 3 episode tape. How about reruns? Anything!

THis was a great classic show, I just hate the fact that sleazebags here are expecting you to pay $75 for one video.

5.0 out of 5 stars Marvelous, March 29, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Adventures of Pete & Pete - Classic Petes [VHS] (VHS Tape)
In my opinion, every episode of "The Adventures of Pete & Pete" is a classic. This was a truly original series, and most definitely one of Nickelodeon's best concepts. There were always some fascinating plot twists, exceptional guest stars (including REM's Michael Stipe), and some very appropriate music from Polaris (a highly underrated band). However, the greatest strengths of this superb program were two of its stars. One, of course, was the wonderful character of Little Pete, portrayed by the amazingly talented Danny Tamberelli; a half-hour of watching his hilarious antics leaves viewers craving more, and his trademark shout of "Blowhole!" is sure to raise a mirthful chuckle from even the most jaded audience member. The other major improvement was the addition of the great Michelle Trachtenberg to the cast. With her marvelous blend of beauty, talent and charm, she simply dazzles viewers, and her thrilling performances are the equal of Tamberelli's. In fact, both these fine young actors have gone on to even greater fame in other great Nickelodeon projects like "All That" and "Harriet the Spy". The rest of the cast is just as wonderful, and anyone who views even a single episode of this wonderful show will be touched. The scripting, direction, and special effects were also thoroughly top-notch. Five stars are not enough for this excellent and entertaining comedy. Good concept, great execution, and unbounded talent combine to make this one of Nickelodeon's greatest shows ever.

Pete and Pete is possibly the best show to have ever appeared on Nickelodeon. With quirky humor, incredible guest appearances and bizarre plots, this show gave kids something worth watching on television. Enjoy!
