Any young dog lover will quickly become fans of Woody and Archie, two mischievous poodles!, January 10, 2011

The Case of the Missing Steak Bone
Mrs. Flout opened the kitchen door and tossed out some bread for the birds who gladly awaited the treat on a cold winter's day. She had two special poodles, Woody and Archie, who were always up for a good treat and were waiting for her to divide that scrumptious steak bone. The two dogs were her "kids" because Mrs. Flout didn't have any of her own. She got a big carving knife and went over to the carving board to divide it up when all of a sudden ... no bone! Hmmmm ... now just who could have taken that bone? Woody, who "was almost human," might just have decided to take it, but then again it could have been Archie. Would she be able to figure out which dog had taken the bone? Would the sneaky culprit confess or was she in for some real detective work?
Who Let the Dogs Out?
Mrs. Flout was sitting in her big comfy green chair watching television. She was cuddling Woody while Archie lay at her feet. Her two poodles were very special to her. Woody was the oldest, but one day Archie came along after their Mom had rescued him from a cruel owner. Very soon it was off to bed where they all snuggled up for the night. This particular night Archie had another idea and as soon as "Mrs. Flout let out the first deep snort" he went downstairs. Woody soon followed, but discovered that he was nowhere to be found. There was nothing left to do but go in search of him. Where could he have possibly gone off to? Was Mrs. Flout going to wake up in the morning missing not one, but two dogs?
Any young dog lover will quickly become fans of Woody and Archie, two mischievous poodles. This dynamic duo will keep youngsters laughing and wanting to see more of them after they finish this book. I enjoyed meeting Mrs. Flout, a true animal lover, who believes in animal rescue. This is the first of three in "The Adventures of the Poodle Posse" series, a series that gets better with every book. In this tale we briefly get to meet Princess Daisy, an amusing addition to the group. These tales could use the light touch of an editor's hand to bring them to perfection. For example, when dog's breeds are mentioned there are capitalization errors (Beagles, Terriers, Bulldog). I'm quite enamored with both the stories and the wonderfully executed artwork that graces many pages in this book. This is an excellent series for the confident reader to tackle. If you have a youngster that loves a light mystery and mischievous dogs, this is one series you might want to look at!

The Adventures of The Poodle Posse is a truly heartwarming tale. Whether you are interested in children's books, are an animal lover, or just a student of human nature, you'll find something special in this book. Ms. Smith clearly is an animal lover, and, assisted by the Ms. Achille's wonderful illustrations, she paints a lovely portrait of the antics of mischievous yet lovable poodles.
This book will make you smile, inside and out, no matter how many times you thumb through it!
